I live in Northern Florida and we were just hit (Sept.2) by Cat 1 Hermine. We’re an hour away from the coast, but since we have tons of trees, there was lots of damage, we had a tree fall on our roof and cause a hole, no electricity for several days, some folks even longer. It was a much smaller, weaker storm than Matthew, and we were lucky it wasn’t that bad, but at the time it felt awful. I can only imagine what a Cat 3-4 is going to be like. If you’re in the path of Matthew, please stay safe. My thoughts are with you all.

Looks like Florida is gonna get hit pretty badly by Matthew as a Cat 4. Please be safe everyone. This charleston bee didn’t evacuate, but most of my family did.. We’re gonna hunker down and hope for the best. I have stocked up with water and other nonperishible goods and encourage all you in the path of the storm to do the same.

Go away Matthew!!

my place of work still has yet to decide if they will be closed during the hurricane (friday) my coworker texted me this morning from work, saying they still plan to be open till at least 9pm tonight……….

i swear if we aint closed on friday, im going to blame it on corporate greed and they should expect me to be calling out.

to be having employees driving around during a hurricane (or at least having to drive home in it) is just reckless and shows they care more about making a few sparse dollars, then safety.

Even here in SC almost all businesses are closed, including my job at least on friday even though the storm isnt supposed to effect us until saturday for the most part. I would tell your boss to shove it and call out… personal safety is more important. AND if there are evacuations in order for your area they cant fire you for calling out to get your family to safety. My boss reiterated that in a meeting yesterday with our staff.

bclaytonsc :  i dont live on the coast, but i work in a tourist destination, so the fact that the company thinks that they are going to get a ton of business while a hurricane is going on is aggravating. i could barely understand why we were open even on wednesday considering how dead it was all day and night.

jessicaxo11 :  that is ridiculous of your work!  I would evacuate and not worry about work. Hasn’t it strengthened to a category 4? And they seriously expect you to work?!

jessicaxo11 :  omg I would tell your boss to stuff it, but that’s just me.  He can’t even write in full words and sentences?  Go to your in laws.

jessicaxo11 :  Wow! I would not be going in to work, and I would evacuate. My friends on the coast all have paid hotels that their work has put them up in – and they are all working remotely from hotels, but are out of harms way. Stay safe, seriously!!

jessicaxo11 :  Your safety is more important than your job. If you’ve been advised to evacuate where you are–evacuate. If the storm hits as predicted there won’t be power Friday–can your business run without electricity? Good luck, Bee.
