We’re getting married November 10th and looking for a honeymoon at a resort that requires minimal planning. Right now we’re thinking Mexico, say the Cancun or Cozumel area (I would very much like to go to Chichen Itza for a day trip as I’ve seen Tikal and Copan).
Though I’ve travelled all throughout Central and South America, I’ve never had to worry about hurricanes. How risky is that time period for the Yucatan? Am I setting us up for disasters?

Your timing is right at the end of the hurricane season, so I think you will be fine 🙂

I’d say go for it.. no matter where in the world you plan it, weather could be a factor. Chances are you’ll be fine.. About 6 years ago I did have to cancel a trip to Cancun because Hurricane Wilma sat on top of them for a few days when we were supposed to be there and destroyed a lot of the city… but that was a freak thing. I just went to Cancun in April for my Honeymoon and it was wonderful!

We are getting married on Isla Mujeres just off the coast of Cancun on July- right at the beginning of hurrican season. We just made sure to purchase travel insurance, asked the hotel coordinator to add a clause about rescheduling for weather in our contract, and told our guests to purchase the insurance as well. I wouldn’t stress it really as long as you’re financially protected should something roll through….

Considering you cant predict the weather, just go for it. Hurricanes RARELY make it over to the yucatan in full force. The way the jet stream is, it’s sort of like a freak occurance for them to get over there and not that late in the year. They tend to turn beforehand.

Thanks for the reassurance everyone.
