Since the lots one was legitimately too big, why not get him a replacement one (cheap, off amazon, etc.) and tell her that it’s a size issue. If you don’t want to get into the fact that he lost it, that is.

Otherwise, just be honest. It was truly an accident, so I don’t think anyone should be mad about it.

It was a mistake… it’s not like he chucked it in the bay… Would she really be that upset if you said to her very honestly that you feel horrible but it’s lost because he lost weight?

I agree with PP — hopefully your mom will understand that this was just a total accident. And odds are she’s been around long enough to know that men lose their wedding rings all the damn time. You may need to act more distraught about it than you feel, but with the right amount of “OUR MARRIAGE IS DOOMED NOW OHHH I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED!” she should be just fine 😉

@tmsing:  you two are adults. what is wrong with telling her that the ring is lost and you two will work to replace it and letting it rest at that? what is all this “i’m afraid to tell mom” business. it’s not like it was an heirloom.

@iarebridezilla:  She’ll understand. Just be honest with her – honesty is always the best policy. Accidents happen.

@tmsing:  i understand. it’s a deep-rooted “fear”… but yeah, you’re an adult. she has to deal with it.
