Hi! I recently got married to my husband who has a hyphenated last name. He only goes by the first part of his last name and wishes to get rid of the second part. We were going to try to change both of our last names at SSA with our marriage certificate to just the first part of his last name? Would they allow that? I have not changed my name yet until we get this figured out. Any advice or experiences are appreciated!

My husband has a double barrelled surname and I took both parts.
anyone can change their surname so here (UK) it would have been easiest for him to change his by deed poll before the wedding and then yours can change just by marriage.
best thing is to ask those in charge, though I suspect at the moment they aren’t able to process lots of paperwork
