Monday I posted about my mother telling me I shouldn’t marry Mr. Cappugcino and how completely unsupportive she’s been. My original post is here. Among her objections, is that Mr C’s mother is mentally ill and even though he’s never had any problems himself, my mother feels I shouldn’t marry him because he MIGHT develop mental illness.
This morning my mother started rambling about my cousin’s fiance. They’re getting married later this summer. My cousin so severely mentally ill that he’s been on disability for the last decade and has been in and out of psych wards since childhood. Last night she was discussing the wedding with my uncle and she told me about the call this morning. My mom feels terrible for my cousin’s fiance because her mother isn’t very supportive. From what I understand she’s never been very supportive, but is very far from keen on my cousin as a future in-law. My mother thinks it’s terrible that they feel this way and is worried that the girl’s mother will ruin the wedding next month.
Seriously!?!?
Don’t get me wrong, I do feel sorry for the girl and while can I understand her family’s reservations, hope they’ll be able to eventually be more accepting. It’s just hard to swallow my mom’s hypocrisy and utter obliviousness to it.
Adding – I do plan to point this out to her later today or tomorrow when I calm down enough. Right now I’m too angry to do so in a rational manner.
