Imagine that sometime in the future you have to replace your solitaire diamond. You have the choice of two replacement diamonds. The first diamond is twice the carat weight of your original diamond but has only half the number of sparkles of your original diamond. The second diamond is half the carat weight of your original diamond but has twice as many sparkles as your original diamond. There are no other choices or possibilities. I am assuming that all sparkles are easily visible. The two diamonds are the same clarity, shape and colour. You must choose one diamond or the other.
Which would you choose?

I chose to have a small diamond because I love the sparkle that come for it! I get comments on it all the time 🙂

I would probably go with sparklier, smaller stone.
I say probably because it would depend how small we’re talking, and how much sparkle we’re talking eg if the smaller stone was, say 0.15ct, the larger 0.60ct, and the larger still sparkled, I would go with the larger. But if the smaller was still a nice size (nice in my opinion obviously; say 0.25ct) and the larger stone noticeably lacked sparkle, I’d go with the smaller.

I would choose the larger diamond. My current ring is SO FREAKIN sparkly, that even half would still be very beautiful. I can’t imagine more sparkle even being possible lol.

I don’t think I would bother upgrading to a smaller diamond. In this instance I would probably just keep my original ring, because it seems like it has a good amount of sparklies and is a good size.
Why choose a larger diamond that looks dead inside or a smaller diamond than the one you have.

Thanks ladies for your answers. I would definitely go for the sparkle.

Sparkles! Fiance knew that I love me some serious glitz (and that I have teeny hands), so in lieu of a great big rock, he got me a ring with lots of tiny diamonds that catch the light at pretty much every angle

I had this same exact scenario when chosing my loose stone. I chose smaller and sparklier. 🙂

I choose half the carat double the sparkle. I’m all about them sparkle pics. My favorite place to look at the sparkles is in the movie theater.

I love sparkles, so half the carat would be fine. 🙂

I would choose the larger diamond as long as it isn’t dull. Can’t you find a happy medium between the 2?

I personally feel that there is no point getting a bigger diamond when it’s not too sparkly. The idea of having a diamond is about having something sparkly that we can admire all the time, and not a bigger stone for bragging rights. 🙂
Fiance and I are deciding on a really, really small stone for it’s beautiful super ideal cut cos it sparkles like crazy (though I’m lurking around to see some real lab created diamonds :D).
