Hi UK bees, hope you can help me out!
FI’s family is from the UK, but we’re marrying in the US (specifically NY, which I’m sure you all know can get quite expensive!)
My question is…in order to give you the best possible chance of coming (saving up money, booking holiday time off work), how much notice would you need?
I’m trying to figure out when to send save-the-dates. Don’t want it to be too early but I want to give plenty of time to his friends & family!

Flights aren’t scheduled until about 10 months beforehand (eta, I know because I need to fly back to the UK for a wedding). So 9 or 10 months for Save-The-Date Cards I reckon (eta I think 8 months is standard). Although maybe a bit longer if you think people will need to save their pennies.

Hmm..that’s a bit of a pain about flights!
I was thinking maybe a year in advance, is that too much? We’re creating a wedding website and will put the details on there once a venue and date is finalized, but I also feel like we should send out paper Save-The-Date Cards as well. FI’s family doesn’t have much expendable income so I think they need a lot of time to save :-/

I gave my UK relatives 12 months offical notice (STD) but let them know what we were thinking location and time wise when we called them to say we were enaged (2 years out)

I would give people a year to save. I’m so excited for you. I would love to get married in New York.
