I have this… But I’ve been taking medicine for it for 13+ years.  It’s simply a part of my routine now ๐Ÿ™‚

I haven’t been diagnosed with it, but I’m 98% sure it’s part of my problems.  I have almost every sign/symptom.  I’d be shocked if this weren’t the case.  I promised Fiance to make an appointment for next week to get tested.

@cbee:  No idea.  I have gone in for certain problems and they never seemed interested in how long the problem was around.  I would tell them anyways, but nothing ever came out of it.  Just a “here, take this..” A blood test is so simple.  Guess they don’t want to be bothered reading results and giving you a call back.

I do take it in the morning… I used to be very careful about the timing of it… I think I would take it 1/2 an hour before breakfast… Now I just take it when I brush my teeth every morning ๐Ÿ™‚  I guess I’ve just gotten more relaxed about it

I was hyper when I first started college so about 9-10 years ago?.  It was fantastic as far as weight loss.  I could seriously eat anything and keep losing weight.  The other side effects like being overheated and dizzy in the shower and super high heart rate were not as fun.  The treatment was radio active iodine pills and they killed it.  So now I’m on supplements to keep from going to hypothyroid since the thyroid is not working at all anymore.  I totally feel your pain with gaining and gaining.  It’s such an uphill battle, but with the right doctor, you can get it figured out and stabilized.  Make sure you follow the directions for your meds – I wasn’t taking it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach let alone regularly.  That really stalled my progress.  I take Levoxyl 150mcg every morning.

I was hyper but then took the radioactive iodine & became hypo.  My mom & my aunt from my dad’s side had hyper.  My mom is now normal thyroid without any medication.  When I became hypo, I gained 13 lb within such a short period of time…I’m now taking synthroid & my levels are within normal limits.  After months & months of hard work and diet, I’ve finally lost the 13 lb I gained.

Don’t worry too much…so many ppl have the same thing and take Synthroid.  It’s safe and I haven’t had any problems with it.

I’m hypo and let me tell you its a struggle, especially with a medical community that tends to dismiss a lot of women with borderline TSH numbers as just looking for an “easy weightloss solution.” Give me an effing break.

I encourage you to look into the About.com Thyroid page by Mary Shorman. I’ve learned so much through that site including finding a doctor who will LISTEN to me to the point where I finally feel balanced on my meds. And by meds I mean the good NATURAL stuff (naturthroid specifically) that doesn’t just make TSH numbers go down but makes me FEEL better. It has both T4 AND T3 (as well as T1 and T2) in it and most people report feeling better when they have both! I actually take 2 grains of Naturthroid and 50 micrograms of Levoxyl (good old synthetic) to get me to a good spot.
