@LauraBenbow71: I don’t know how this would work in your chair, but I am pear-ishly shaped (about 44″ hip) as well and I went with an a-line dress. They measure you based on your up-top measurements (waist & bust) so you get a truer size because your hips and butt are hidden in the dress. I loved how skinny I looked in the dress because I have a pretty small waist that the dress accented but just huge hips that were completely hidden. I’ve also seen some girls embrace their curves with a fit & flare or mermaid dress which can look amazing (I didn’t think I could pull it off LOL) but I’ve heard they are kinda difficult to sit down in so it might not work with your chair. Good luck in your search… there is definitely a dress out there for you!

@LauraBenbow71: My best suggestion would be to go and try some dresses on… that way you can better see what will work for you

try a-line dresses. i bought a used dress off another bride and she said she measured size 20+ on her hips but since the dress was a-line, she measured a 12.

If you get a dress that is fitted under the bust, that is the narrowest part of your body. Then have the fabric flow from there.
Look at http://www.igigi.com for the style of dress I am referring to.

Hey there!! I am a true pear, too…my hips are 18-20 inches larger than my waist (I have pictures of me in my dress around here, LOL). I love my curves and am wearing a trumpet gown for my wedding. The best thing I can advise is to try on all styles. For me, being an extreme pear an A-line/ball gown accentuated my hips and made me look even more disproportioned.
I know you want a zippered back, so make sure to work with a great tailor if you do go that route. Simply because you’re hippy doesn’t mean you can’t rock any style dress, but for me the KEY was a corset back. Because there is an EXTREME difference between my upper and lower body (oh, and I have a short waist) I tend to have puckers with a zippered gown and the corset allows me to fit the dress to me an to adjust if needed.
I went to several different salons, some twice, during my dress search and fell in love with an Alfred Angelo gown. Best of luck to you in your search…you WILL find your gown, just be open minded and don’t settle because you don’t have to.
Smooches and blessings!
