I’m sure the forum rules say no swearing, so please pretend I am swearing on the top of my lungs and saying some seriously nasty stuff.
I have some mild OCD, so to avoid clutter, I deleted my “sent items” section of my email on Friday. Everything important to me I send to myself, so you’d think that would fall under “received items”. NOPE. Today I was searching for something. It is gone.
EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF WEDDING PLANNING IS GONE. Aside from budget and contracts which I have backed up my computer, 16 months of planning is gone. My vows, my timelines, what is left to do, my contacts, MY VOWS, my DIY guestbook, everything.
It’s okay. I won’t let this do me in. I’m a little over 100 days out, I have almost everything done. I can figure out what I am still missing and I can rebuild. But my god, I worked for so long on my vows and I was so close to having them finished…I can’t believe I need to start from scratch again.

@MrsFutureG: girrrrrl google docs is your FRIEND! or dropbox! dropbox is perfect for keeping track of all your contracts. good luck!

Sorry this happened. 🙁 I would swear like a sailor, too.
But yeah, google docs, dropbox, or word/excel docs saved to your hard drive would’ve been good to use. Back it up this time!

It’s ok! Deep breaths and wine will help. You know your vows. You wrote them. You may not realize that you know them right now because you’re panicking, but they are in your brain. Repeat your originally writing process. If you wrote them out on your laptop on your couch, go sit on your couch tonight with the laptop. Just get that first line down and the rest will start flowing.

@MrsFutureG: Were you writing the vows in your email account, or in a word document? I am very tech savvy and I am quite sure I could recover your things. Give me your laptop 😛
I wrote my vows out by hand and then hid them so FI wouldn’t find them and furbaby wouldn’t eat them. Both of those are very real concerns 😛

What email account do you have? I’m sure some of them have a ‘recovery’ system that you can use within a certain number of days.
If not, I’m glad you’re taking this in your stride! Have a glass of wine, and chill, then start thinking. I’m in a wedding planning lull so I can always contract out my services

@MrsPanda99: I was. I deleted permanently though. I sent in a begging request to google and said whoever solved this could get invited out here. 😛
To everone else: Thanks. I’ll be fine and I’ll be able to recover it all. I’m just bummed as my FI is an AMAZING wordsmith. It comes so naturally to him. So I have been honing these for 16 months, trying to be on par with what he’ll churn up. I’ll come up with something great and hopefully similar, but 3 months isn’t enough time to perfect it to my standards.

What email provider are you using? How were you sending them back to yourself? I don’t understand why they wouldn’t go into your inbox.
ETA: If you were using gmail and just replying to the email, I don’t think it goes to your inbox. But if you were forwarding the emails back to yourself, it should have gone to your inbox. (Actually never mind. If you had your email in the TO field, then it should have gone to your inbox with a reply.)

I do this too and lost a lot of wedding stuff! I went through my email (gmail) and did not delete stuff that came in, only sent stuff and now I’m missing all the contracts and a lot of important info. BUT, I use google docs (as others have recommended) and I have all my info in there (separate tabs for budget, honeymoon planning, addresses, head count, etc about 30+ tabs!)
You could always ask each vendor to resend your contracts to you. I had mine printed so I didn’t bother but that sucks when you are super organized and then you lose a bunch of it.
