@charmedbee:  I had the same anxiety that you are experiencing now. I am a street size 16 and heard that the dress sizes run bigger. I automatically thought that no store would carry my sizes and that I would be discouraged! Not the case whatsoever.

I tried on 50+ dresses and had a BLAST doing so! Lots of the corset dresses sucked in my tummy and pushed my tatas up wonderfully. I never felt like such a beautiful woman.

I hope you have the same experience I did!

Don’t worry, you’re going to look beautiful. 🙂 I’m a street size 22 and I had the same fears – but I found a dress that I love and I’m certain you will, too.

Take a deep breath and take a few friends! I have seen so many brides that are size 16+ that look absolutely stunning in their gowns. I can only assume and guess that you will be one of those brides as well.

Check out Alfred Angelo if you can. I was/am a street size 12 when I tried on a few of his dresses and there was this one dress that made me look like a size 4! I couldn’t believe it! That particular dress was #2 for me, but sooo would’ve been my dress if I hadn’t found my dress.

I too am a street size 16 and I found lots of dresses to try on. I actually have pics of me in 126 and not everyone allowed pics so I know I tried on many more. I actually loved many of them but it took me awhile to realize I wanted something off beat. If you look at my posts I know I shared the highlights of my hunt. This can be very fun but I wont lie and say there aren’t some mega b**** sales clerk out there. If you could get down to curvaceous couture I really recommend them. They are so terrific and caters to our size. Good luck on the hunt and go wearing some spanx.  I was much more comfortable in them than standing in front of salesclerks in my skivvies.:p

I’m scared too! I’m a street size 18 and am sooooo scared to go wedding dress shopping.  I’m hoping to leave it to the very last minute if I can to be honest, but I know I can’t do that. I dont know what I’m going to do.

I might have to check out Alfred Angelo based on some of these recommendations!

I was not at ALL happy to go dress shopping either. In fact my sour mood put a damper on my mom and sister who came with me. But once I put on that first dress (which ended up being the dress I walked out with) I loved it. I put on 15 different dresses and put the first one back on about 3 times.

It took forever – but it was amazing. I am in no way skinny, but this dress made me feel like I was – thick arms and all 🙂

You will LOVE it!

I am a street size 16. This was me on my wedding day.

I bough store size 14 and had the bust taken in 1 inch & the waist & hips taken out about 2 inches to a size 16. I also lost 2kg in a stressful week before our wedding day, lost 8kgs total over 12 months. You WILL find a dress you love. All you need is a good dress & a great photographer!

Hunny you will look fab. I’m a street size 16 as well. This was the first thing I worried about when I got engaged. Even had a mini freak out the night before trying on dresses cause I was worried I would be a fat bride. I got my dress from David’s Bridal. They have a huge selection in all sizes. And trust your consultant too. My dress ended up being one I would have never looked at, the consultant picked it out for me and it was the one.

I waited until 10 weeks before my wedding to go dress shopping.  I only went to one bridal shop, but found a dress that I really loved.

One thing I did not know until I went in was that it took so long to order dresses!  Yikes, was that an eye opener!  Luckily, the store contacted the manufacturer (Maggie Sottero) and they only had one dress in stock – a size 18.  It was perfect (I am street size 14-16)!  I picked up the dress about a week later.

If I could do it over again, I would’ve started looking last October when I got engaged!

Don’t make my mistake – go shopping early!  My experience was good, but in reality, I didn’t have a lot of options.  I realized after walking into that store that I needed to purchase a dress that day, and that most of the samples were not options for me.  So don’t wait!

Good luck!

I was so scared too, I almost didn’t walk into the first shop. I thought they wouloo look me up and down and say nothing would fit. Dont worry, I’m a size 16 and the shops usually seem to have a wide rangvof sizes. Most of the sample sizes I tried were size 10 but it didn’t matter because they just use pegs to hold it up at the back and you can still see what the dress will look like. They are so used to fittingdifferent sizes I felt completely comfortable in all 5 shops that went to.

Definitelydon’t put it off, I was scared to go because of the sizing issue. By the time I finally went I only had 2 days to make a decision and order my dress otherwiseIit wouldn’t arrive in time before the wedding. Mine is taking 4 months to arrive.

You’ll be surprised how good you’ll look in a wedding dress, they are made to show the beauty of your curves.

And your Fiance is right try on dresses, try them all on! lol.
