Great Hoosier minds think alike! Hope your wedding flowers are flourishing in our Indiana heat! My daughter’s wedding is Sept. 25. Our flowers are just little things right now – still in their little seed pots waiting to be planted in the garden. We planted zinnias, african daisies, cosmos, white and african sunflowers, etc. Will be alternating table flowers in mason jars and white milk glass vases. Fiftyflowers and Sams seem to have decent prices if you need to order any. Also there is a wholesale flower place in Indy – Vans (I believe) where prices are good and you can pick them out yourself. Congrats and good luck!

My mom grows Dahlias, Zinnias, Gladiolas…etc. every year for her arrangements she does for church, and for other occasions. They are always beautiful!

No that is not crazy at all, I used all the flowers from my peonies bushes and cut them just before they opened.
I had them in my fridge for 3 weeks, about 70 blooms and they worked perfectly for my wedding. I even made the bouquest for myself and my bridal party the night before and I had enough for all 10 centrepieces.
I grew my own wheatgrass and staked the peonies in them.
I’ll try to post some pictures of them later but I’ll have to wait until I get pictures from friends and family as I didn’t take a picture of the centrepieces but I have pictures of all the blooms and the bouquets.
I probably saved at least $500 doing this.

@MissHay – what kinds of flowers will you have at your wedding? My uncle volunteered to grow our flowers, but I’m not sure what I want yet! We’re getting married in mid-August.

seriously? why go through all this to save yourself a couple bucks. you will already be saving money from doing the flowers yourself through buying them online. its not like you have a real florist anyways.

Lol – I see titles like yours come up on the board and after I read and click I want to answer in one word.
🙂 I’ve never “grown flowers” though… I’m just glad you have a back up plan 🙂

I grew wheatgrass and it ended up coming in well. It seems like you did your research so I think they will turn out awesome. Just do lots of extras so you will be able to pick the best blooms and the back up plan is great!
