Darling Husband and I were finally able to rip into our gifts last night. We actually got a few wrapped gifts, which I was surprised about, as the last time I’ve seen someone bring an actual wrapped gift to a wedding, I hadn’t hit puberty yet. His friends and family are bit more traditional though. Beautiful and very thoughtful, gifts! I digress! The presentation/cards? We were absolutely FLOORED by how generous our guests were! Seriously, the amount we got has paid off our wedding (including what my parents pitched in) and left us with a couple thousand yet… Nevermind that a few people forgot their cards and we have to yet to get them. I’m thinking some special Thank-Yous are going to have to be in order, here. I should add, my family and friends are mostly traditional Ukrainians, and when they find out there’s an open bar, they open up their wallets a bit more to the couple.
How ’bout you? Were you surprised by the generosity of your guests? Were you expecting less? Or, were you expecting more (maybe just from a few guests) and felt, well I’m not sure what the word would be without sounding greedy, but you get the point. Spill, Bees!

I think that’s great that your guests were so generous! I haven’t had my wedding yet, but my FI’s family is notoriously stingy. I’m not expecting too much.

I can’t say that I was really surprised by our guests generosity but we were VERY pleased. DH’s brother was married a few years ago so we had a general idea of what we’d receive from their side. My family is small but I’m the only girl (only child) and my cousins are boys who much younger so our wedding was the only big event that our family has had and will have for quite a while. We received a few actual gifts but mostly cash. The monetary gifts that we received were enough to cover the whole cost of our wedding (which we had a lot of help paying for) and leave us with a little extra ontop of that. I wanna get married every year! Lol

Ah, I tried posting earlier but it didn’t work. Anyway, we were really surprised with the generosity of our guests! We pretty much had a “free” wedding. We got a few boxed gifts too which were great. We also had some family and a couple friends who didn’t even leave a card, but it didn’t really matter, we were spoiled!

I was! We didn’t ask for any gifts or anything, and we were pleasantly surprised 🙂 Everyone came through with something. We are so blessed!
Congratulations by the way!!!!

We were too! On average, our guests gave us around 200.00 to 300.00 per couple. (probably more gave the 300) We also had some guests give us 400 and 500 as well. We were just happy that everyone made our wedding! We are extremely lucky by their love and support.

What my guests gave doesn’t sound generous compared to what some of you received, but yes, my guests were incredibly generous in the gifts they gave and in the love and support they showed. We are very lucky!

We haven’t even had our wedding yet and the gifts we’ve received already have shocked us with how generous they are being.

@farmerswife6: My expectations were low; both of our families are stingy. lol So I was really surprised with the gifts we’ve received thus far, I literally wasn’t expecting a thing. And then to be pleasently surprised with the items people chose!
Items that are literally useful! Can’t wait to break it all out and start using it all!
May I add that its wonderful to have rubber spatulas and non-melted/ruined cooking utensils again! lol

Our guests were generous–but we got what we had anticipated. We got a bunch of gifts from the registry (I guess our people don’t know that sending it in the mail is much easier) and we got a few thousand in monetary gifts. It’s funny–some of the people who I thought were big spenders were not–and some people who I thought were cheap really hooked us up. I guess it shows that you never can guess. We felt very blessed with our gifts and are still trying to fit them into our house. We had Christmas in November!
