HEY Ms. Gertie! Glad to see you doing well πŸ™‚ How many songs are you going to load to the iPod? I like the idea of the BOSE sound system because you can keep that afterward πŸ˜‰

Yeah I would never pay $1k for a DJ, but that’s just me! Ours was $495 for 4 hours πŸ™‚

I can’t believe it’s only 3 weeks til your wedding! OMG are you ready?!

We did our own music as well – it was a playlist on my iPhone that one of my brothers hooked up to a dock on his laptop!  The playlist was numbered according to the event (Dancing, Dinner Music, etc) and went off without a hitch!  My husband and I picked all of the songs ourselves too!  Way better In My Humble Opinion than spending a whole lot of cash for a DJ!

I am doing this but I am a bit apprehensive about it. For the people that have already had their wedding, did people get up and dance? My concern is that without a physical DJ there, no one will dance.

@Ms. Gertie:  My fiance’s cousin is going to play our first song, but we don’t want him to play the whole wedding so I was kind of thinking that during our first song, he’d ask everyone to get on the dance floor and then we’d switch to ipod playlist? Do you think that could work? By the time we have our first dance, the only thing left is to dance because our toasts and everything will be before that.

This is what we are going to do for our son’s wedding, but I am nervous about it.

How does it work without an “MC” to make announcements etc?

I’m doing my own music. I am a musician, so I have my own PA, mics, etc. already. I may be tied with you for the budget-conscious wedding, in fact! We’re having it at the home of my best friends (who have a large property in the country, tons of parking, and a nice outdoor pool area for the reception). I’m doing about like you – setting up our playlists, having a buddy hit “play” for us during the ceremony, etc. Our officiant is actually just a close friend, too. We’re mixing the ipod music with some live music (mostly acoustic, but since we’ll have the mics, we won’t object to anyone who wants to karaoke it, lol). I’m a music-obsessed person and other than letting a trusted friend run the board for me, I can’t imagine giving control over my very eclectic musical choices to a DJ! πŸ™‚
