I’m sure it is frustrating for you. But surely you knew this was a possibility when you decided to date an older man. You would probably think the same thing if you were the other person.

Why let what other people say or do provoke this response? Just ignore them.

I learned working in ER to never assume what the relationship was between two people.

I probably would have said something completely inappropriate like yeah I like it when daddy spanks me too. I’m totally vulgar like that. Sorry some people don’t know how to hold their tounge. You would think she would think how strange it would be for a man to be holding his 20 year old daughters hand and then put 2 and 2 together.

@Ms.Shamrock: Trust me , I have seen freaky Dads holding their daughter’s hand in ER. Name a creepy relationship- I have seen it.

He’s my Daddy, but I’m not his daughterWink (btw why is Daddy a “sexy” term?…it kinda weirds me out…Undecided).

On the flip side of your weird experience, someone once thought I was my Dad’s (trophy) wife. UGHHHH Gross…and they thought my little sister was my daughter. I in no way look older than mid 20s at most. And my dad is like 50 (granted he still looks pretty in shape for 50). I’m always very cautious about assuming what people’s relationships to each other are because of things like this.

When I was 19, a boyfriend gave me a giftcard for Victoria’s Secret. He went with me to redeem it, and when I came out of the dressing room with my final choice, he quickly rushed me out of the store.

Turns out while I was in there, the salesperson who was helping me approached him and asked, “So, you’re here with your daughter?” My boyfriend, SEVEN MONTHS OLDER than me, was dumbstruck and just shook his head. “Um,” she guessed, “your niece?” He stared disbelievingly. “No.” She gave him a disgusted look, muttered, “Oh, I SEE…” and walked off.

I totally wish your fiancee had said, “Yes, I certainly think so!” before full-on making out with you.

@mg1363:In German we say “Aunt” and “Uncle” instead of “Daddy” and “Momma.” Why? I have no freaking idea, but it sounds just as lame, if not more lame.

I feel you but the other way…..

My Dad was always young looking for his age and a few years ago I was having surgery… My dad waited in the waiting room while my mom and gma went back with me to get me prepped… When the nurse was leaving she asked me… “Would you like me to go get your husband now?”….. we laughed but it felt weird that everywhere we went people looked at us like we were a couple…. =/

It could be worse.  My dad is VERY young looking for his age (praying I have those genes) and people always assume I’m his date or wife.  When I was in college he took me to look at apartments and the lady assumed we were two crazy kids moving in together.  GROSS!

I’ve been mistaken for my dad’s girlfriend before.  Totally creeps me out, I’m 21 and he’s almost 60.

My Darling Husband is prematurely grey. He’s only 49 and he’s completely grey. I’m 45 and although I do have grey hair, I color it…I’m NEVER going to be old enough for grey hair!! haha!

Anyway, in December 2009, we had a professional photo taken of us together. He had it on his desk at work, and one of his employees commented that it was a nice picture of him and his daughter.  DH thought it was hillarious. He told his employee that I wasn’t his daughter, I was his girlfriend. (We weren’t yet engaged.)

Totally relate. I am 27, Fiance is 29. He is balding, wears glasses and a beard and is going gray all of these add up to people thinking he is late 30ish. I am short (5’0) with chubby cheeks and young face, people often think I am in HS! We get dirty looks alot, or rather he gets dirty looks. But can’t do anuything about it but laught LOL.
