I have seen many David’s Bridal dresses, and yes they are beautiful. My problem with them is that we only have one in my city, and the last time I was there Every Single Sales Lady was a BIOTC! I hated my experience there and after waiting (with an appointment) for over an hour (on a Tuesday Morning) when there were 5 women working and 3 other brides, and NO ONE helped me, except to tell me I wasn’t allowed near the dresses until someone could help me, I finally walked out. with a total of 4 brides in the store and 5 workers, I felt it was complete crap that they couldn’t help me and that I was told to sit down and wait and not go near the dresses.

It is not that the dresses are bad. I dislike because I wanted the full bridal experiece. Champage, gift bags, thank you cards, personal service and most important, I did not want the same dress as thousands of other girls. It is not the quality, it is the overall experiece.

I didn’t want to go there simply because my sisters both had really negative experiences at the DB near our house, but like any chain retailer, some locations will be awesome and others will be horrible. So I hardly think all DB stores are awful.

As for people judging you for buying a more affordable dress, screw ’em. I got mine from J. Crew for four hundred bucks and I felt absolutely beautiful on the day of my wedding. I’m so glad I didn’t spend money I didn’t have on an expensive gown just because I felt like I had to.

Just blow people off who may be snarky. There will always be people like that.

I would never knock another bride for their choice in a wedding gown, so to each its own.

But IMO …. DB is the walmart of wedding boutiques. This post is the first time I have ever heard of any brides having a good experience there. I had a horrible experience at a DB and they will never see a dime of my money.

I have seen some of the cheapest looking dresses on Brides from them….im sure im biased because of my experience! But I would never…ever…

I am more confused when I see women on Say Yes paying tens of thousands of dollars for one dress than I am by people trying to get a good deal. I ended up with a DB dress that was online-only and final sale, but I had both good and bad experiences at DB trying on dresses, just based on location and salesperson. I have personally heard more of the stigma that their service tends to be crappy or that they charge out the wazoo for alterations.

I, too, have experienced them selling out information as I’ve had several calls already for people telling me I’ve won something — if only I’ll sit through a presentation and buy cookware, etc.

@MrsStrawberry24: Yeah… that is not cool. Just saying ” I wouldn’t knock them” then telling the MANY of us who bought our dresses there that it is like Walmart don’t work together.

@chasesgirl: Agreed. You’re going to find ugly, cheap dresses at many retailers, but you’ll also find really nice ones, too. Just because you had a negative experience doesn’t mean you should compare it to Wal-Mart. Imagine reading that if you were a DB bride.

I kind of agree with princess. Walmart and DB are both overcrowded. They pump customers in and out by the minute. It is not pleasurable at all.

Like PP have mentioned, I have never received good customer service at DB location closest to me. Everytime I go I end up helping brides in and out of their dresses because I feel so bad they aren’t getting any service!

That being said, I think their gowns are gorgeous and if the one near me had better service I would have shopped there in a heart beat!

@MrsStrawberry24: Sure, you have a right to say it; it just seemed insensitive to me because many WB brides have purchased from or are thinking of purchasing from DB. I mean, the whole point of this thread is that the OP is frustrated with attitudes like yours. But that’s just MY opinion. 😉

I too have heard the stories of bad customer services from DB…but wound up ordering my dress, which was an online-only style, through them.  I literally gasped when I took it out of the box…and received so many compliments.  A friend of mine who told me she’d hit me if I bought a DB dress raved about it and was shocked when I told her where it was from.  I think they have stepped up their game, and much of it depends on the individual store.

@MrsStrawberry24: I sort of agree, but I disagree that saying its like Walmart has to be a negative thing.  They are both everywhere, cookie cutter stores, and are targeted toward the budget consumer.  It could in the same way be compared to Target or kohls IMO.  It is what it is.  I shop everywhere from Walmart to Target to Kohls to Neiman Marcus and Saks, I considered DB.  It is more than possible to find something nice at any of them.
