I’m really sorry this happened. I would let the agent know you can’t afford their new price and you’ll be looking for a new venue. I’m sure if you, fiance, and family put your heads together you can find something that may even be better. Another possibility is this venue will call you back and give you the lower price. Personally, if they don’t lower the price I’d walk away.

I would phone the venue directly and make sure there was no gap in communication.

Did they give you a written quote? If so, you can hold them to it.

If not, I would still make the point that they had quoted you a certain price, the venue was obviously still available and I expected them top honor their quote.

I would tell them that I understood the economic challenges they are dealing with , but am hard pressed to understand how this tactic will help a new business.

I’m sorry this has happened to you. Gaps in communication are so not appreciated at this stage in the wedding planning!  :S

For people who come for a wedding consultation for my business, a signed contract and a retainer are required to hold any date.  The business should have been so much clearer in what constitutes a solid booking and how long they would honor your quote.  🙁

I hope you are able to find something even better soon.  Maybe when this door closes, another, way better door will open for your wedding venue!

Poor, poor service……..

Try VRBO.com (Vacation Rentals By Owner) Maybe you will get lucky and find some sort of estate with a great location and outdoor space. I am sure you feel like you cannot trust anyone now.

I hope it works out for you!

If you signed a contract & they gave that to you along with a written price quote, than I don’t think legally you have to pay any more than you originally agreed to. It all depends on the contract. Do you have a lawyer you can talk to?

Where in Australia are you if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m so sorry to hear that this has happened to you- I had to deal some some terribly greedy suppliers for my wedding a couple of weeks ago, too.

@pohget: I’m from WA so not familiar with the area, but are there pretty locations like parks, beaches etc in the area where you could set up a large marquee to have lunch under or something? Worst case scenario you could look for a restaurant with in the same area that has your date available (buget allowing of course) and cancel the caterers and have the ceremony somewhere nearby?
