Fiance and I went to Zales tonight to get my ring inspected for the diamond commitment every six months inspection deal, and they found a lose diamond. 2.5 – 4 WEEKS! I’m sorry, but I think that is a ridiculous amount of time for me to have to go without my ring for them to tighten some prongs. Maybe I’m being overly emotional and PMSing but I think it is crazy. Long story short, we didn’t give it to them to send off quite yet. I haven’t decided what I am going to do yet. I can void the warranty and pay to have a local jeweler do it for about $30, but if a diamond were to fall out we would have to pay out of pocket, OR to just suck it up and send it in. :/
What would you ladies do?

I would let Zales do the work, so your ring stays in warranty. Depending on how the diamond is set in your ring 2.5 to 4 weeks might not be a long time; especially, since they have to send it out. Whatever you decide to do, I would personally not do anything to void the warranty. Diamonds are expensive; especially good quality ones.
I do know how you feel though. I had to leave my ering with the jewelers last Saturday, so it could be resized. Because of the complexity of my ring, they have to take it apart and put it back together again to get it sized correctly. I could have picked it up this week, but they are so far away that I have to wait until this Saturday to get it. Right now my finger is naked and I am going through ring withdrawal.

I know it is sad to let it go for that long but i would suck it up and send it in. Better to be safe than sorry.
Maybe put a ring in its place so your finger doesnt feel so naked!

A week after we got engaged I noticed a small stone had popped out and went missing — I FREAKED!!! My ring is damn expensive but thank god we bought it at a local, family owned jewelry stone that is very well known and great to work with. I had to wait almost 2 weeks for them to pop a tiny stone back in…..not cool when you are newly engaged!! Every one kept asking to see the ring and all I had was a bare ring finger…
Better safe than sorry!

I agree that it’s ridiculous, but you likely don’t have any choice, unfortunately. That said, I had my ring reset while I sat there – they did it in front of me, and it took 20 minutes. So 2 1/2 weeks to fix a loose prong would drive me mad. I feel for you!

I sent you a msg about Zales and my ring!

I say let Zales handle it. As much as it sucks keep your contract with them should anything happen in the future.

That stinks, my center stone was loose so I took it to Jareds and I had it back the same day. I wonder why they would need it for so long? But I agree with the other Bees when they say you should keep your warranty in tact.

That’s crazy! I went in with one of my girlfriens for her 6 month check, and her diamond was loose. They fixed it in about ten minutes while we waited.

This is the main reason why I decided to get a solitaire- I wouldn’t be able to STAND being without my ring! I’d have Zales fix it even though it would take longer. Voiding your warrenty just isn’t worth it.

We went to Shane Co. have had no problems at all and they jump when you come in! I’m sorry you have to be without your ring for that long, that is insane!

I agree, you want to keep that warranty in tact! But I wanted to chime in and say that you should have your ring insured as well, which would help offset the cost if anything else happens. You can add a jewelry rider to your homeowners insurance or renters insurance. I think we pay $40/year for my ring, maybe even less.

It would depend to me on how big the diamonds were and how much the plan was. If it’s real small pave diamonds, it probably wouldn’t be too pricey if you happened to lose one. And I think I’d rather pay the 30 to a local jeweler (rather than wait forever from Zales since they have to send it out since they don’t have jewelers in house)

Let Zales do it. I had to have mine sized and they told me 2 weeks, it was back in 4 days. It could feasibly take much long than they quoted.

I’d let Zales do it.
But if Skatell’s is the local jeweler you’d want to do it… I’d say call them just to see how much it would be… cause they are AWESOME. They custom made me some jewelry in a shorter amount of time than what Zales is going to take!
That suckssssss either way though. 🙁 Maybe buy a “stand-in” from Overstock.com/ebay?
