I already have a stunning tea length dress that I love, but my Fiance wanted a long dress for the ceremony. So we went and found an ok dress as a sample for $100. It was ok, but I knew it wasn’t “The” dress. Fast forward six months. My mom, an art photographer, calls me and tells me DB is having their 99 dollar sale and she wants me to go buy something cheap so she can do a TTD shoot for her portfolio. She sent me the money and I headed out to DB. While I was there waiting for them to pull my size – that’s when I saw IT! An Oleg Cassini dream (CWG352). It was everything I ever envisioned myself in. I had to try it on. Looked better on me than the picture in the catalog, if I do say so myself, LOL. So I called my mom and Fiance and they both said get it and to use the other dress for the TTD. I put the deposit down. So excited and feeling alittle guilty. I never imagined spending that much on a dress, but really, I only get one shot at this.
But why do I still feel so guily?

You will feel better the day of when you are in your dream dress and you know it’s the one and that you love it 🙂 so I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you 😉 You can always try to sell your dresses online either before or after the wedding too if you want. That might alleviate some guilt for spending more money than you wanted to… It sounds like you really don’t care at all for the first full length dress… maybe just try and sell that online now (after the photo shoot that is) and just stick to your two dresses then you can have the full length dream dress as your ceremony dress then change into your tea length one as your reception dress. I hear of a lot of people doing this… btw what’s ttd?

Oh that is beautiful! Do you feel guilty because of the extra money you spent? I just think it’s important to find a dress you love. You did, so all is good 🙂
@lulumae- it stands for Trash The Dress. It looks super fun to do! You just take a bunch of awesome shots that you normally wouldn’t do in a white dress. Like, at the beach, or laying in the grass, etc.

I would feel a lot better Trashing the Dress (TTD, for lulu mae) with a $100 gown than an expensive one so it looks like it will work out for you in the end. You can still wear the tea length dress at the reception or for your send-off. And you are lucky you found THE DRESS and although expensive, it was still manageable. I am still looking for THE ONE and I know of others who never found the one.

OMG, ttd! Even with a $100 dress, I think I would cry 🙁 I’m much too sentimental about things 🙁
btw, your Oleg Cassini dress is stunning! I’d love to see pictures of your tea length dress 🙂

OMG, I drooled over that dress just yesterday in DB! But I guess it was out of my price range since the consultant didn’t want to bring it to me. I found “my” dress anyway but yes that one is a BEAUTY and way way better looking in person! I had seen it in the catalog and only briefly noticed it. When I saw it in the shop I didn’t even realize it was the same dress! Stunning!
Also, stop feeling guilty. Are you a frugal person by nature? I am. I pride myself on my stylish $10 thrift store outfits (shoes included!) and my crazy ability to save money, how I get textbooks for school for 1/3 of what my classmates are paying, how I found my awesome $600 car, my “freebie” furniture finds on craigslist (furnished half my house this way)… so I have a very hard time with this dress thing. All my friends and family marvel that I am the “most resourceful person they know” and how I can feed the entire family with seemingly no money. So that’s my “style”.
My dress is around $600 which is very moderate in the “wedding world” but in MY world, costs more than my car did!!! I have decided to just let that whole thing go, because it’s my WEDDING and I will allow myself to be a bit foolish for such a momentous occasion!
