I’m getting married at Secrets Maroma too.

The price fluctuated a lot during a 4-5 month period. It was also usually several hundred dollars on different sites, apple, cheaptickets.com, orbitz, etc.

I would say the price stayed around 1200-1400 for almost all guests  for 3 nights. Some are staying for 4 nights. We are also going on a holiday weekend and of course gas prices are sky high right now. If gas prices go down, the price of the trip will go down.

It’s been pricey but I wanted that resort for all of the reasons that you probably already know about.

Not sure how easy it would be to switch resorts 5 months out. You would lose your deposit I think.

How many guests are youhaing? Have any of them suggested they would not stay at the resort? Has anyone booked yet?

How long again are your guests staying for??  And you know what is going up – the airfare or the resort or both?

I would stay stick to your plans but at the same time I know what you mean about your guests spending the money.  How many guests booked reservations??

Are you working with a travel agent? If not contact Beach Bum vacations, they are FREE and so friggin awesome. They can usually get lower prices on trips than just booking on your own and they are Destination Wedding experts. That may be a way to get the price lower for guests.

OMG… I just got back from Secrets Silversands which is just down the beach from Maroma and it is SOOOOO worth $1700!!  We paid over $2200 per person.

The resort is so so gorgeous, the food is AMAZING, the service is incredible… trust me, no one is going to feel like they got ripped off paying $1700 for this place, versus $1000 for a 3 star resort.

@CallmeC – I agree with going the TA route.  I dont know if this is how all TA’s work, but we didnt have to pay for our trip (in full) til about a 45-60 days before the trip.  If this is how they all operate you can mention to your guest about booking now and paying a couple $100 a month til the wedding date.

You have to remember, the one you chose is adults only, rated #1 in PDC on TA, and 5* resort. There won’t be as many specials. They have no rooms available at the hotel for my wedding weekend. It’s completely booked and has been for a while.

Are you okay with only about 8 guests? Do you think more would come if you changed resorts?

I find that it’s cheaper to book far in advance. Did anyone book yet? Would you consider pushing the wedding back a few months if people would book now and be able to get the better rate you originally saw? I’m pretty sure pushing back would bnot cost you any money except your flight but you said you got insurance so could make it a viable option.

As a guest at one prior Destination Wedding at a Carribean all inclusive and planning to attend a second one, I think it is clear that this becomes a vacation for your guests. Darling Husband and I feel like if we are investing so much to attend a friend’s wedding we better make it worth while and stay at least a week to enjoy ourselves. In the case of both my friends, they sold us on the idea before booking and the first one offered to pay $200 toward the flight of each bridal party member. I know you said you can’t cover a day pass but maybe you could see about skipping something else in order to assist guests if it is important to you that they are there? $1700 per person is not bad but I guess it depends on how long and if that includes flight. We are looking at about the same price p.p. for just hotel for the week in Jamaica for March 2013. As a guest it is hard to stomach the cost when I think I could plan a trip to an island I have never been too for that price BUT I know we will enjoy the vacation.

Well picking the #1 rated resort in an area ia going to cost $$$. Personally I would rather downgrade the resort and have more guests be able to afford it than have a top notch wedding that no one is there to experience. That is really up to you though, but you have to recgonize when you pick the top of the line deals are harder to come by :/

Newlove- I saw on the other site that you are finding $1700 for 6 nights. I think that is a great deal!!! Try checking prices for 3 nights or 4 nights. A lot of guests will not be able to stay 6 nights. That’s a long time! All of my guests exept for 2 are only doing 3 or 4 nights and we have 20 guests who will be there for the bonfire and wedding day! If it’s a short flight, they don’t need a week. Not to mention, if some that you invited have kids or jobs, 6 nights is probably not a reasonable amount of time.

Some have waited til pretty much the last minute to book. Actually almost everyone waited til the last minute.

You didnt yet mention how many days the guests are staying or planning to stay?

As you know we are going to Secrets Wild Orchid Memorial Day weekend and our guests are checking in Friday and leaving Monday and paid about $2500.00 – air, resort, taxes, transfers – everything.

I just went straight to Secrets website and did four days/three nights to your resort out of Steel City and the total price was $2381 (I am in total wedding mode and dont feel like working…so I thought I would look at prices for a minute for you…).  I dont think that is a bad price for 4 days and 3 nights…….not sure where you were getting $1700 pp.

Also I dont think you should have to be price watching – isnt that what your TA should be doing??

Dont feel guilty about the resort that you chose – your chose it for several reasons and remember this is you and your FH special day!  These will be your memories…
