Cancel the order. Its your day. In my experience, everyone my mom/grandmas age wanted to see me looking like a princess in a ballgown, too. It’s just the vision they have in their head. They will get over it when you choose something else. For the record, I do think the 2nd dress you posted is beautiful on you.

It reminds me of a quince dress, or “my gypsy wedding” on TLC.

I think if you tried it with a smaller hoop it could be very beautiful. But you really need to go back by yourself and get a dress you love. IMO the skirt of a ball gown shouldn’t actually be round like a ball. And a bridal gown should look a bit more mature than a quince dress. You aren’t 15 and you aren’t a princess cake topper. Stick to your guns.

@ littlepenguin99   I think the gown you chose is beautiful, and I love the open back. I agree with PP that the skirt has the wrong petticoat. I think it will look better with less poof. If you choose to get a reception dress please share it with us!

Putting it bluntly, both of those ball gowns are horrendous. You are such a stunning girl- listen to your heart and go with what YOU feel good in. Those other dresses on your previous thread are gorgeous and I honestly think anything would look amazing on you. I agree w a previous poster who reminded you about the strapless. You look absolutely breath taking in that!! Good luck and keep us updated on how things go OP!!

I don’t think the dress is hideous, in fact it is a beautiful dress, but do YOU love it?  If not, then this is not the dress for you.  I honestly don’t understand why brides take their families with them when they go shopping for dresses as you know you are bound to get a lot of opinions about what THEY want you to wear, not what you want.  Or at least your mom and grandma should let you choose and be supportive of what you would like to wear.  All that said, I hope you go with something that really speaks to you and your personality and what you envision yourself in for your big day.

Definitely reminds me of a quinces dress. Maybe if you actually tried on a bridal ballgown it would be different for you. I do love the fitted dress on you way better though.

I just read Post #37 when another bee shared of photo of you in a STUNNING dress! THe shape, the details, everything about it blow the poofy ballgown out of the water. I’m glad to hear you are going back to look at dresses because I agree with others — the OTHER dress that isn’t a ballgown is literally stunning on you.

@ littlepenguin99   The ballgown is a very traditional look and I can see why your mom an grandmother love it.  It is very princessy – but it feels more likea “quinceanera” dress than a wedding gown.  Also the cut of the bodice is kind of dated.  If you must get a ballgown to please them, then the 2nd one is a much better choice.  You look look a woman, not a teenager and it has a more modern and elegant, but sensual feel.  Get a great pearl and rhinestone/crystal necklace and a veil that drapes the shoulders.  After ceremony, take photos in it and do your first dance in it as it will look magical.  During dinner, change into a fabulous evening gown.  Go to @ littlepenguin99  and rent a fabulous gown with lots of shimmer so that you can feel glamerous.

I don’t like either honestly. For a quincenera or prom the first one would be cute with less poof. But it is definitely not mature or bridal looking. I don’t like the second one at all. It’s way too cookie cutter imo. If you’re fine with wearing a dress most will forget and many brides have worn before it would be ok. I think you should try to find a dress you LOVE.

No, don’t be embarrassed!  And save those pics with your other engagement memories.  It will be so much fun to reflect back on all of that later, by yourself, with nieces and nephews (who know how their grandmother is, lol) and with your own children if you have them.  Save up all the memories.  Sometimes the funny things end up being revisited more often than the serious, “dreamy” things.

the first one looks like a quinceanera gown to me. the second one is much better. edit: i just saw your updates, way to stick to your guns! Your mom and grandma will think you look beautiful at your wedding even if your dress isn’t what they would have chosen.

My grandma wanted me to wear a ballgown, but it was my wedding and I wanted a mermaid gown–and was prepared to buy it myself. she has a very narrow view of what a “bride” looks like and thought that I wouldn’t “stand out” if I didnt wear a giant poofy dress (she is still very partial to the 80s wedding look). She tried to guilt me into picking something she liked since she offered to pay, it didn’t work, and she ended up liking the dress I chose, especially since it was 1/4 the price of the ballgowns she was looking at.

tl;dr it’s your wedding day, wear what makes you happy. they already had their day and their dresses, this one is yours.

I’m a huge ballgown fan, but these aren’t it. The second one definitely looks better on you, but I think you should keep looking. Good luck!
