@SophieB3:  Hope he recovers quickly!

This happened to my dog, but before we could get her in for a surgical consult the other ligament in the other knee tore as well.  She couldn’t walk at all.  She was looking at two separate surgeries and crate rest for 12 weeks, plus having to be walked in a sling because she couldn’t walk at all.  She also tore the ligaments during normal activity (not running or jumping), so I think it was more of a birth defect type thing.  I made the hard decision to put her down because I didn’t think the surgery would fix her knees.  I had to do what was best for her.  It sounds like your dog has a different situation though and hopefully he will recover fully!

I have 2 dogs (1 mine & 1 fiancés but they’re both mine..u know what I mean) and I can’t even imagine how upsetting & kinda scary that has to be. The poor thing. And what makes it even worse is that dogs aren’t able to tell anyone when they’re in pain & when they need help or anything like that during recovery 🙁 … I’m so incredibly sensitive to animals.  I can’t do those commercials with the abused animals & the Sarah Mclaughlin music in the background…I can’t even stand the thought of one sad, upset, hurt, or lonely animal.  I tell you what, animals would be the first foundation I’d help if I won the lottery. I’m so sorry that this is happening,  especially on your wedding time. Yuck! He’s going to miss his mommy & daddy just as much, if not more,  than you guys will miss him. I really truly hope everything goes well…with your baby & with your wedding.

Awww poor guy! And poor you too. It’s bad timing but you’re a good person to have your priorities straight and take care of him the right way even though it’s your wedding week. You sound like a good dog mom!

Poor baby! My parents dogs both had both their knees done at different times because they blew like yours did. The worst was the first couple days when they didn’t get why they could play with the other one (who at that time was perfectly fine and wanted to wrestle!) So as no fun as it is, boarding him will be way easier on him and yall. Other than the girl dog having a little arthritis in her knees now that she is 10 they both recovered great and when they were still younger could run and play just as well after the surgery.

@SophieB3:  I am so sorry to hear this news!!! What horrible timing and just unfortunate situation altogether. My golden is also my baby and I love her to death. This happened to her about 3 months ago and we chose to get CCL surgery (we chose TPLO). We have been saving for our May wedding for a year now, so the $4500 bill was a pretty big blow for us, we ended up getting a interest free for 18 months credit card and plan to pay it off after the wedding before the interest kicks in, we had no other choice. It was very hard emotionally to get through it, especially those first days. As hard as it is to leave him, he will be in good hands and probably actually much safer there for the first crucial days post surgery. My pup’s first week was terrible, everytime she moved I would be in full panic mode and nervous that she would hurt herself. The first two nights were also the worst being on the pain meds, because she was disoriented and would whine. So, rest assured your dog is in good hands and will be properly rested while there and might be easier on you emotionally that his first couple days will be over with when you return. It’s also nice that he will be monitored 24/7! I was always checking on my dog to be sure she was okay and that made me crazy. He’s safer in these early stages than moving about your home because that is the toughest part, they want to be normal and walk around.

We are now 3 months into recovery, she is limp free and running around like her typically happy puppy self. It was SO worth it. You just have to remember that and keep your eye on the prize, that your pup will be recoverd and it will all be worth it. There were many times I was tempted to take her on that walk because she was dieing to, but I knew it wasn’t worth the risk. PM me if you ever need any advice or tips. I bought lots of doggie mind games to keep her busy and just had to take the time to sit with her and keep her entertained. And all these weeks of confinement and rest are long forgotten from her mind.

Good luck and speedy recovery to your pup!

That’s horrible news!! Our Golden partially tore his a few years ago, but fortunately, it was on a leg he’d broken before, so he automatically kicked it up and tripodded when he felt pain. It was able to heal on its own, but he wasn’t allowed to walk up stairs or anything for four weeks. He hated it not because of the pain or anything, but rather because he hates being carried and had to be carried to go out and to go to bed! I think he liked not having to be outside though — that dog’s the biggest homebody I’ve ever witnessed.

Best wishes for your doggie’s recovery!!

Your dog is really lucky to have you. Not everyone would foot the bill (even though pet owners should). I wish your handsome dog a quick recovery.

Congrats on your wedding! We will all be anxious for an update!
