I’ve tried on quite a few dresses, so I know that I want a ballgown or full a-line with a straight neckline. The problem is that I want a dramatic dress with some color or black in it for under (or close to) $2000, and I can’t find anything I like. I also don’t particularly care for beading. Has anyone seen anything that might fit the bill?

Have you tried on other options? Or are you insistent on ballgown or a-line?
Also, for most of those dresses, you could add a colored sash to the dress if you want.
I’d recommend going to other salons and trying on other silhouettes just to see what you like/don’t like.
My dress is a different silhouette than I originally wanted and I LOVE it.
Keep an open mind and keep trying, you have time still!

Some suggestions from Maggie Sottero and Sottero & Midgley:
Winona: (+ ballgown, color, little beading, – no straight neckline)
Viera: (+ color, straight neckline, – not so full A-line, much beading)
Aspen: (+ A-line, color, straight neckline, little beading)
Jayne: (+ A-line, color, straight neckline, no beading)
Glenda: (+ A-line, color, straight neckline, – much beading)
Linley: (+ color, straight neckline, – not so full A-line, beading)

I have a really amazing Sottero & Midgley that I am selling after my wedding in June.
You can check it out at the classified at – http://classifieds.weddingbee.com/topic/sottero-and-midgley-gracie-jsm1334ss-size-6-8-ivory-available-june-2011
It is dramatic, strapless, a fuller skirt, no beading (like you like) You could easily add color into the pleates or in the flower. I fell in love with it and would love to see someone else as happy with it as I know I will be.
Let me know.

Have you looked into a Quincerana (sp?) dress? They tend to be full ball gowns, with color and drama.

This first one, I found on Klienfelds link, it’s in the $1500 – $3000 price range, it’s by Augusta Jones. I think the bees and I all immediate thought of the sash idea.
The second dress was featured in 2008 on “Say Yes to the Dress”. It’s a Romona Keveza, Style #L803, I believe. I think it sells for $3300, but I would find one that maybe a bride is selling if that is something you are interested in?
I KNOW I’ve seen a beautiful one on the internet in search of my own dress… I’m searching for it… If I find it, I’ll be sure to post it!
SOOOOO, I just saw you wanted a ballgown!!!! MY BAD! I’m still looking for that dress….

Mori Lee 4524? its beautiful and has pockets. since you dont like beading you could easily switch out the sash for something black 😉
and its only in the 400-500 range

@KatNYC2011: I have tried on many silhouettes and most every else made me look sexier than I would be comfortable with in a church wedding. I have Christina Hendricks’ curves.
@Mrs.Firefly1: The Romona Keveza would be exactly what I was looking for, but it’s the wrong shape. 🙁

@CharmCityLady: Ah I totally understand.
From Allure Bridals (if you want a dress that isn’t white):
Here’s one with a colored sash from Eden Bridals:
Sash color could be changed from Jaqueline Exclusive:
Lots of color from Da Vinci Bridal:
Alfred Angelo seems to have several with color too.

@CharmCityLady: After I saw that you wanted a ballgown, I thought to myself what if you bought a white ballgown dress (simple one that you loved) and had a seamstress add black veil to the top and bottom in the same pattern? I mean, they sew on lace on a mantilla veil… why not a satin dress??? I’m thinking they could def cut off a couple inches and add it or overlay it. Then you’ll have the dress of your dreams.

@Mrs.Firefly1: That’s a really good idea. I will look for some plain dresses.

You can just look for plain ball gown and add a black sash.
