So we got married about 5 months ago. We have chatted about having kids but not for atleast 5 years. Today while out at the shops I happened to see the most adorable baby plush rattle and just HAD to buy it! Oooopps! I have never ever even considered buying anything for our future kids before
haha Has anyone else just not been able to resist the urge to by adorable things they stumble across? I feel like its the equivilant of buying things for your wedding before you’re engaged haha. Tell me you stories! Im not crazy?

I don’t have enough information to confirm if you’re crazy or not 🙂
I will say, I never purchased anything wedding before we were engaged and I haven’t purchased anything baby related and probably won’t until I’m 12 weeks pregnant or more. Too worried about having it be a sad reminder of what we DON’T have yet.

sequinlove: The only thing I’ve bought was an adorable little knit baby hat that I plan to give to my husband when we conceive (we are trying now, but I bought it, like, over a year ago). Otherwise, I’ve been tempted, but I’ve always resisted buying baby stuff because I feel like it will be hard to have that stuff around if it takes us awhile to get pregnant. I don’t need stuff around that will just make me sad.

Before we were engaged, my mom bought me a “Plan your wedding” book. I guess she knew it would happen for us one day! It was a bargain at regular $30 for $3.
Other than that, I haven’t really bought anything myself prematurely…. yet. We can’t TTC for another year or so, so who knows what will happen! But I don’t think you’re crazy!!

I’m pretty much the worst for this. I’m really into garage sales and such so I will buy some books, toys or the occasional piece of neutral clothing. if it does take a while I’m aware that it could upset me but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. I’ve also bought a few superhero onesies at walmart when on clearance. But for now it sort of calms me down and keeps me hopeful and excited for the future.

Haha no I wouldn’t do it! I didn’t buy anything wedding until we were engaged and haven’t bought anything baby. I would be so embarrassed if someone caught me!

The only ‘baby’ stuff I have bought for myself is a onesie and pregnancy book to give to my Darling Husband when I get my BFP. However, I do buy children’s books, that a suposed to be for my future classroom (I’m almost finished with my teaching degree), that I can easily put into the pile of stuff for my LO when the time comes. Other than that, I try to avoid buying baby things.

As long as you dont buy tons of stuff I think you are okay. I actually bought my wedding shoes before we were engaged – but I didnt tell anyone. But I havent bought anything baby related. We bought some childrens books a while back – but those were more for reminiscing purposes. I see adorable baby stuff all the time – but im too scared to buy anything. Fear of never being able to use the items for our own kids

I personally haven’t but I have a friend who has bought both boys and girls baby clothes for her future children. What if she doesn’t have a boy and a girl? LOL I should also add she showed all her friends on Facebook and this was 2 years ago and she still doesn’t have any children.

You aren’t crazy! My husband and I went to Germany to visit family and I bought a Mercedes pacifier just because it was adorable… We are TTC, but I am not pregnant yet.

I ALWAYS buy baby stuff. Not for future kids, but if it is adorable I buy it and stash it away for a baby shower that I may be invited to. I like to plan ahead when it comes to life events. Christmas is almost paid for by July and birthday party themes for the kids are picked out pretty much a year in advance. I have weekend plans planned months in advanced…and it drives my Fiance nuts. I am crazy though. Almost mad if you will. 🙂 Its amazing, nothing in my life is really organized. However, party planning and “dates” have binders with dividers and I remind my Future Father-In-Law about his wife, sister and mother’s birthday.

A few years back, my friend found out she was having a baby girl and I bought some things for her. Well,at the next ultrasound, “she” had a penis, lol. I kept the things because as a college student with no car, it would have been a pain in the ass to return them. So, long story short, I have some baby stuff somewhere in my closet. I plan to donate if it’s never used though.

sequinlove: LOL. I’ve almost done it! I came across a newborn onesie on the internet that was for my football team and since Mr. S and I cheer for opposing teams, football items are a big thing in this house. Plus, the onesie said something like “I cheer so hard for Seattle that I poop myself.” And I died. I actually grabbed the iPad, ran down the hall, burst into the bathroom, and shooved it into Mr. S’s face as he’s getting out of the shower going “Can I get this?! Can I get this?! I know we won’t need it for a while but OH MY GAWD! CAN I GET THIS?!” And as I’m freaking out and Mr. S is staring at me like I’m crazy, it clicks what I’m doing so I run back OUT of the bathroom and down the hall going “Nevermind…. I was kidding?!”

Warning: you don’t get a baby…….you get a person and by that I mean a unique person.
I think that someone buying a baby rattle before being married or even TTC is not grasping this fact.
Also check the rattle has had all the safety testing – it should say something about this on the rattle or its presentation box. If not then throw the rattle away immediately.

This is why I love pinterest. I have several boards about baby/pregnancy stuff that I can hide from the world until we actually get pregnant. Thought I have been VERY tempted by a few super cute things.
