Ask her and then if she says that she hasn’t seen then, then casually say “Ok, thanks.  I will just check the cameras to trace my steps.”

Whether you have a camera or not.

I’d dont think if you can’t find them that you know it’s her. I mean if they were in a box, and she was the only one visiting your house, you’d have to be extremely stupid to take someone rings. A bit of money, maybe something small, that ypu wouldn’t notice right away, yes. I’d keep looking and tell your husband so he can help you.

SnowInApril:  If the cleaning lady did take them, then she is a terrible thief. Only an idiot would steal something like wedding rings on the exact day they are there cleaning because then they’ve set themselves up to be accused without even trying. Is it possible you grabbed them from the box while you were rushing after sleeping in and set them down temporarily in the rush and then forgot where you put them? Sometimes when we’re flustered we start a task without finishing it and then can’t remember what we have and have not done.

Could they have slipped off somewhere?  I seem to remember reading a story here on the bee where the ring ended up in the bag of cat food or something.

Maybe your husband is teaching you a lesson. I would mention it to him in case he did find them.

Check your purse and all of the pockets of what you were wearing that day. Like

lavenderstone:  said, it’s possible you grabbed them in a hurry, didn’t put them on, and forgot.

Also, I’m totally not saying that you didn’t actually put them in the box, but for me sometimes I think I’ve done something just because it’s habitual and I swear I remember doing (because I have a million memories of doing it before!)

Is it possible they ended up next to the box or next to where you clean them and your hubby grabbed them on the way out?

When I was a kid my Dad would always tell me not to leave my bike by the rode because someone would steal it. So the next time I did he took it and made me think it was stolen. Maybe your hubby is doing something like that? lol

Also the last time you saw them wasn’t before the cleaning lady, it was the night before. Please tell him. He’ll be just as devasted as you and even more so if he finds out you didnt mention it.

Have you double check with the gym just in case?

I still say ask your husband… Like other said, and you said yourself, he pointed the rings out to you last time you left them out. Who is saying he didn’t see them and took them to teach you a lesson, so to speak!! Ive heard of others doing that. So instead of panicking for days id ask the husband. And if he didn’t take them, he can help you to find them.

are they insured in case of lose?

She definitely took them! Ask her if she has seen them and tell her you know where you put them. Also mention filing a police report because someone must have broken into your home. I bet she will put them somewhere in your house next time she cleans. You could also check your local pawn shops for your rings chances are if they were stolen that’s where they will end up. Goodluck

I would almost bet money that your husband has them. Especially since he pointed them out to you before. Your cleaning lady would have to be really stupid to pull this off.

Ugh. I hope you have the rings insured. I recommend giving it a month or two in case they pop up, and then filing an insurance claim (check with your insurance company though to see if this is ok). As many posters have said, sometimes you can “remember” a routine action, but the memory is false. It’s actually super common. So retrace your steps, and ALL of the options, even the dumb ones. Even ask the gym to see if it’s in their lost and found.

My mom once lost her wedding rings, and SWORE it was the cleaning lady. She even formally accused the woman, and fired her. 5-6 years later the rings were found…in the bedroom heating vent. My mom’s dresser is next to one. Somehow the rings fell off the dresser, down the heating vent (it’s on the floor), and rolled into a spot that is hard to access and not visible. It was only when my family hired a vent cleaning service that the rings were found. By that time she’d filed an insurance claim and had a new ring, and of course felt like a b*tch for accusing the cleaning lady.

could you have left them in the ring cleaner?  Check your purse, the car, the couch, the washing machine, your gym bag. .

Call your insurance company now.  What has happened is considered “mysterious disappearance” since there is no proof of theft.  They will be able to advise you what to do next.

Please talk to your husband before accusing the cleaning lady!
