I don’t think the cleaning lady took them. If she came recommended by several people that you know, She knows you know them. Why would she risk several of her clientele for some quick money? You get eff all for selling jewelry at a pawn shop, even if it’s worth quite a bit. How long has she been cleaning for you? My grandma got robbed by a cleaner once, but it was the first time this cleaner had worked for her and she’d given false details. Do you have any other jewelry in a jewelry box or something? If I was a cleaner lady thief, I would take something which might not be noticed for a week or so, not something which will almost certainly be discovered that evening. You admitted yourself that you’d been in a bit of a rush the last couple of days, I think you left them somewhere and have a false memory of putting them in the box due to habit.  Don’t give up! There are p,entry of stories on the bee of women losing their rings and finding them again.

SnowInApril:  I really hope you find them.  I think you should retrace your steps and look again.  Another poster, posted that she could have sworn she put her ring in one place and ended finding it in the pocket of something else.  Most likely you feel like you would have put them in the box because you have done so time and time again.  But you probably put them somewhere else.

I’m sorry and I know I’ll sound rude but I do find it a little tasteless that you’re accusing the cleaning lady.  She has given you no real reason to think that she would have stolen them.  She came highly recommended, and I doubt she would be stealing your rings to make a profit.  There would be no reason for her to take the rings and then pawn them off.  Something like rings is a much more obvious thing to steal than something else of more value.  You normally wear the rings every day.  You’re going to be more aware when you can’t find them, than a pair of earrings.

SnowInApril:  i would tell my husband immediately. you guys should share everything (for better or for worse) and he should help you and support you in getting to the bottom of where they are. i’m sure he’ll understand and you guys can decide together how and if you want to address the cleaning lady, and then go from there.

i hope you find them!!!

I just find it hard to believe the cleaning lady took them. Especially when she came highly recommended. And she answered the phone when  you called initially. If I’d stolen your rings, if probably avoid your calls.

You have no proof. Accusing her is not the right thing to do.

SnowInApril:  It does look suspicious to ins companies if you don’t contact them promptly.  Mysterious disappearance is a little different than theft which is why I advised you to call him right away to give him a heads up.  In that situation the customer will spend time looking for the item before calling, which is understandable.

I really hope you find them soon.  The cleaning lady SIL situation is a sticky one for sure.

she never ever should’ve brought someone with her!  That’s just too coincidental that she happens to bring someone over and then rings are gone. I really hope they magically appear soon. file a police report. They can talk to the cleaning lady and her sil.

I’m glad you had insurance on them.  I’m so sorry that you can’t find them.  I’m glad you handled everything well in regards to the phone calls.   As for the SIL…grrrr.

Sounds like the sister in law or the cleaning lady did take them for sure… I can’t believe her husband called you yelling! Right there makes me wonder why he felt the need to do that. I’m sorry, but if I were you id be firing that cleaning lady now. Just say sorry, after hearing she brings others into your home while she works, and having a missing item, you won’t be needing her services anymore. I would not want that person back in my home. And id change my locks too if she has a key. So her crazy husband doesn’t come barging in one day!

It seems likely that the SIL is the thief. I would be upset that when you spoke to your housecleaner the first time she didn’t mention that someone was with her. I once had a housecleaner steal my diamond stud earrings (I stupidly left them lying around)  and he actually tried to replace them with CZs. I noticed the difference right away while he was there and said maybe he “vaccuumed” them up by mistake. Sure enough he found them in the vaccum ha ha. I fired him on the spot. It’s amazing what people do and theives can be very stupid. Glad your rings are insured!!
