If you’re planning to leave the ring as-is, I imagine it would be difficult to find a band that would go with it, I’m sorry to say.

Maybe you could wear a band on the top of it, instead of at the bottom?

Or, you could get a wedding band that you really like/want and wear it on your left hand, and wear the engagement ring on your right. Or you could have your grandmother’s stone reset.

I’m sorry to hear of your shipping woes. I’m surprised, too, because most places don’t have a problem shipping to APOs…

maybe you could get a wedding band and wear it on your right hand?? Or what if you alternated wearing a wedding band and Ering? Or you could take the diamond and have it set in a solitaire? and find a pretty little band to go with it? If maybe your mom found a free standing jeweler she could probably have the diamond set in a solitaire for very minimal cost then send it to you. I like the shape of the ring I think it is pretty cool actually and unique. However, i am not sure it screams engagement ring and you’re right putting a band with it might be hard. A lot of people wear just one ring though. Its all preference. If it were me, this is totally just me. Whatever you do will be fabulous. But I would have the diamond set into a solitaire and keep the setting and one day put a gem stone in it for a RHR one day, then I would get a dainty wedding band to go with the solitaire, again that is just me. I mean right now because I just changed my whole diamond and setting (again lol), even though I am married, I wear a solitaire and occasionally a sterling silver band with it when my husband wants me to look married LOL. Eventually I will probably get a little diamond band again but IDK. You’re so blessed to be given a ring. I wish you well. Congrats on getting married/engaged/eloping 🙂

mbradshaw :  if I were you I’d have the diamond set in a different ring for your engagement ring (maybe look for unset or partially set bridal sets, then you’ll get a wedding band to match wuth it) and have a birthstone or favorite color stone set into that ring for you to wear as a right hand ring.

mbradshaw :  I think its really cool too. sizing shouldn’t be hard I don’t think, right? What an awesome gift. After all rings are a symbol of love and commitment. I love hearing about bees being gifted heirlooms. So amazing. Whatever you do I hope you share it with us 🙂

I would take it to a jeweler and have them add a custom band.

mbradshaw :  glad I could help ☺ and it might save you from needing sizing too, depending on which finger on your right hand you prefer to wear a ring on. If I ever got a right hand ring I’d get it for my middle finger, which when I tried a sizer at Micheal’s came up 2 and 1/2 sizes bigger than my left ring finger.

mbradshaw :

I would just wear it the other way up , ie with the pointy part going up your finger and have a plain wedding band under.

I love it btw,  so different .
