I don’t like fiance either, and I studied French.  It seems snobby.  I usually say future intended or boyfriend, depending on the person I’m talking to.

me too!  It sounds so snobby.  I just introduce him by his first name.

I wanted to skip right over Fiance – i was not a fan so i would default to boyfriend most of the time. Husband is so much better!

I didn’t have too much trouble with it, but Fiance hated calling me his fiancee … so he just stuck with girlfriend, and now that the date is getting closer, at least in private he just calls me his wife 😉  I often refer to him as “hubs” in written communications too, at least with people who are aware that we’re not actually married yet!

I refer to him with his first name whenever possible! the word fiance just sounds so pretentious to me (hopefully I spelled that right?! lol). I cannot stand using that word. there needs to be an alternative to that. I have issues with all the titles though at this stage in my life : boyfriend-too young sounding (im 27) fiance- nuff said husband- the only one that I am ok with as long as its not over used. hubby-dont get me started on this one!!! my least favorite out of all the possible words lol. I just had this whole conversation with my boss earlier actually, he asked why I always say my FI’s name instead of ‘my fiance’ and i explained why and it was this whole big conversation lol. sorry for my rant 🙁 but this has been a hot topic for me today!

We’ve been engaged for almost 2 years and I still call him my boyfriend. I can’t wait to switch over to HUSBAND! 😀

@Ellegee:  When I studied at university and we were reading some older literature, I seem to remember that fiance came from an old French word meaning “promise.”

I never liked it either; it always reminds me of that Seinfeld episode with the annoying woman who kept going on and on about her fiiiiianceeee.

I don’t mind the word and I’ll use it to talk about my Fiance to people who don’t know him. However, I use his name whenever I can.

I love calling him my fiance and he calls me his fiancee. I think its so sweet! We have been together 2 1/2 years and I waited a little over 2 years before he proposed. I feel like I earned the title, as did he! It works for us and I am proud to be his fiancee  🙂

Hahahah, I’m not alone!!

I can’t either and when I’m corrected (which happens more than NOT) I say it all snobby-like, “feee-onnn-sssaaaay!”
My boyfriend and I have been together for 10 years, we passed that common law marriage sometime ago, so we’ve pretty much been married for a while (come to think of it, not sure why I haven’t made the transition to calling him my Husband sooner?!)

I had thought this will be the only time I can call him that, but I don’t think I will miss it.

Weird, indeed. Glad to not it’s not just me. Laughing

He does not like calling me his fiance. As a joke he called me his betrothed in a few emails. We just stick to boyfriend/girlfriend. I never seem to remember to call him my fiance. After 8 years of calling him my boyfriend, it seems to stick.
