jmeetsj:  Love moissanite and that ring! I wanted moissanite really bad and my DH had no clue about it, so we ended up picking/designing my ring together. I guess we weren’t “traditional” either, but we did what worked for us as a couple and that’s all that counts! You’ll have to post pics when you get it!

jmeetsj:  this ring is a beauty! Where did you find it? My gf is looking at moissanite rings and wants something almost exactly like this, I would love to share the info with her if that’s ok!

oh and to answer your original question, i didn’t see my actual ring before I got it but we talked about it a lot and I told him the style/size that I felt was ideal (showed him pics) but left the ultimate decision up to him! He didn’t disappoint lol

I think it’s great for women to pick their own rings, if that’s something that the couple wants to do.  But I think that unless the man is very well off, a budget should be discussed.  I know that some people may find that tacky since it’s a gift.  But if you’re going to start a life together, it’s important to talk about practical matters.

I know someone who wasn’t happy about her ring but she would never dream of saying anything to her fiance.  It was a yellow gold ring with a lot of side stones, and she would have prefered a platinum solitaire with no frills because of her wardrobe and her current jewelry being all silver.  Now, she’ll have to look at it every day for the rest of her life.  But most women are happy with their engagement rings even if they didn’t pick them out.  Every couple is unique.

I picked mine because I once tried on a ring for fun while shopping for my Mother-In-Law at Tifanny’s and saw the ring of my dreams – a fancy yellow diamond solitaire with a yellow gold band.  And it was my first time trying on a ring.  Years passed and I still couldn’t put it out of my mind.  He knew this and offered to take me to the store to pick my ring out to make sure that’s still what I wanted.

Yeah, well, I’m designing my engagement ring and most likely paying for it as well so I wouldn’t worry! My partner makes much less than me and for him, rings and the like aren’t very important – on the plus side, I get to choose exactly what I want without guilt!

I knew what I wanted before I even met my husband. When we went ring shopping, we went to four different jewelers until we found exactly what I was looking for. It didn’t bother DH at all that he didn’t actually pick it out, but he did approve it, and he likes to tell everyone that he picked it. 😉

I designed my own ring. We talked about our plans to share our life together and we talked about everything that goes along with.. including the ring. The BEST gift he could have given me was the freedom to create something I would love and cherish for the rest of my days, just like I will my Hubby. Togethr we colaborated with a diamond cutter and chose a custom facet, than with a jeweler for the setting.  I was still suprised because I didnt know When he was going to pop the question!  It took absolutly zero away from the moment and the happiness of our love.  Go For IT! take a little control its perfectly fine! Enjoy!

My boyfriend hasn’t proposed with a ring either, but we’re engaged otherwise!

I’ve knew what I wanted from the get go (many many months ago) and we both know I’m selective with designs. I photoshopped a basic idea of what I wanted on my hand and sent the pic to him, we’ve discussed it many times now.

He went to the jewellers today for my ring and it’s a good thing we are completely open about it to each other because my design is complicated in terms of getting the right stones! Center diamond with a sapphire halo. Hard to find the sapphires that would fit without any gaps and needs to be cut specially to go around the chosen diamond. (Which hasn’t been chosen either) Instead of proposing in 2 weeks, he’ll have to wait at least 4-5 weeks for the ring because of the stones hiccup! Total bummer but still excited and hoping for more good news when he sees the jeweller again to discuss more.

ponyrider:  I don’t think she said in her post but it appears so from what others said. I just assumed from the price comment she made that it was diamond but looks like other bees have a great eye, even from a pic, not an actual photo
