I think it will come down to how well the stone is cut.  It’s my impression not all XXX are equal, so to speak, so I think you’ll want to see them in person before making a decision.

People are afraid of color since the jewelry industry pushes the ridiculous notion that only the most colorless stones are beautiful. Most color is apparent not in the face-up position in which diamonds are set, but from the side. When was the last time you saw someone’s ring from the side? Differences in color become more apparent when stones of different color are set next to each other. This is why a master set is used when grading diamonds.

Today people are starting to wake up to the beauty of diamonds in the “lower” color ranges now rather than mindlessly believing what they are told is preferable. /diamondsoapbox

bb1018 :  I was a tad worried about my J looking off in white gold, but it turned out to be fine. My diamond sparkles like crazy, so tones aren’t noticeable to me. I have a 6 prong base too so any tones are neutralized more by the prong reflections. I’m not sure if that’s been scientifically proven, just a guess. Ha ha.

I think an I color will definitely look lovely in platinum. Even a super ideal cut K can look fine in white gold.

bb1018 :  ironically, I just had the chance to take a profile pic of my J diamond. There are even overhead kitchen lights with yellow warmth that you can see reflecting onto the white gold band and a bit on the diamond, bit it still looks pretty colorless.

Congrats on deciding in favor of the upgrade choice. I definitely want to see it!
