Maybe about once a year, so yes.

But lately I want to cry pretty much every day, but I hold it in because I’m worried for the same reasons that you are.

I cannot even COUNT the times I’ve cried at work or other female colleagues have cried. In my last job, you got “promoted” to Hell. In Hell, if you don’t cry, you haven’t actually done any work in Hell. Everyone cries during their 6-12+ months in Hell. No, seriously, it may as well be Hell, because that’s how awful it was. And we’re all adults, law school grads, whatever. The boys don’t really cry, but they dealt with things a little differently. But all the girls cried, for sure.

I have twice and seen many co-workers do so once or twice in the last 4 years I’ve worked at my place of employment. We’re only human!

I work in fast food. My grandpa passed away on New year’s eve last year, and for some reason I went in to work that day (he was still alive but we knew he wouldn’t last long). A customer came in and was a little rude, not as bad as a lot of people, but I just couldn’t handle it. I almost threw their coffee at them and ran into the back crying. Thankfully my bosses let me go home. The next time they saw me, they thought nothing of it… well except one manager who thought my week off was a good reason not to pay me correctly for a month. But don’t worry, I’m sure your boss understands 🙂

I have. It’s as for something small too. But that’s life, we’re all human.

This thread makes me think of Kristen Bell’s interview about her birthday surprise on Ellen:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5jw3T3Jy70

“If I’m not between a 3 and a 7 on the emotional scale, I’m crying… crying if I’m too sad, crying if I’m too happy.”

That’s me to a T… Too sad, too happy, too proud, too passionate, too angry…. all of that in my world equals me crying. And it makes me so frustrated!! I blame my mom for passing the crying gene down to me.

Only once a few years ago. My sister and I worked at a restaurant together. My aunt had been battling cancer. Our parents called to tell us that they were going togruesome hospital to say good bye to her because she wasnt going to make it. We both lost it but our coworkers and boss totally understood. How could you not?

Im sure it’s more humiliating in a professional setting but seriously don’t worry about it. People know that shit happens and that people go through stressful times.

@Bostongrl25:  I cried at work a few years ago in my old job. I hated my job so much it made me sick to go every day and they’d promised me I could be trained in a different area. I went to the off-site training for a week, came back to do my on-site training and they told me they’d changed their minds and weren’t going to do it just yet. I absolutely broke down in front of one of my managers. It was more frustration than anything, I was so angry about the situation. I agree with PP that it can be a stress relief, as embarrassing as it is.

I”m sorry you had such a hard day!

Have you ever read Lean In? Even Sheryl Sandberg admits to crying at work and actually has a whole chapter (or section) of the book devoted to why showing emotion at work isn’t necessarily a bad thing–and can actually be a good thing. I really wouldn’t worry about it too much. Maybe it will actually have positive repercussions with your boss in the future.

@bkrocks13: Holy shit, that’s crazy! I doubt anyone judged YOU for your response! I’m sure they were busy thinking about how batshit the VP is for chucking a stapler at your head! Good lord, I’m glad you’re not there anymore!!
