Well, my poll was literally a 50/50 split almost the entire time haha! But I really appreciate everyone’s input, it has helped make the decision that much easier. After a lot of deliberation, hair-pulling, and waffling back and forth, I finally realized which dress is right for me, and which one I’ve known is right all along.
Oddly enough I had this realization watching Beyoncé’s video for Best Thing I Never Had. It depicts a wedding, Beyoncé’s character’s wedding, and for the ceremony she wears a beautiful (albeit a little flamboyant) strapless ballgown dress, and she looks perfectly bridal and wonderful in it.
But then it switches to her reception, in which she’s wearing a slim-line, unadorned, satiny sheath type dress, which at first glance even looks like the dress I really love, and my heart skipped a beat. I LOVED it. You could really see HER in that dress, as opposed to just seeing a dress with a person in it like with the ceremony dress.
And I realized that I don’t need a strapless, poofy a-line ballgown style to “make” me a bride if that’s not what I truly want. Just because it’s traditionally “bridal” doesn’t mean that the other more beloved dress is any less so just because it’s fairly slim-fitting and satiny.
And so…my dress. My wedding dress. The one I have loved since the minute I put it on, the one I need never have questioned, the one that makes me feel strong, sexy, confident, sassy, the one I feel like I could compare to thousands of dresses out there and still love it the most…the satin halter.
😀 😀 😀 😀
I loooooove it and I can’t wait to order it and try it on in my size!! Today I bought my shoes and I already have my jewelry (it’s my “something(s) old”, earrings and a bracelet of my grandma’s that I used to play dress-up with when I was little), so all I need now is a veil and headband, both of which I won’t decide on until my actual dress comes in and I can see the whole look better with a properly-fitting dress, my own bra, etc.
Super super excited!!
