@orchidaloha: This is totally weird. The reason I keep looking for jobs is because my bosses are complete and utter whack jobs (seriously, something straight out of Snakes in Suits.) I wouldn’t use them as references for a good restaurant, let alone my career. I use co-workers who are in more senior positions than me, and clients I have worked closely with.
I echo what previous posters have mentioned – work on your LinkedIn profile, connect with people online, and network, network, network. I’ve been looking for a new job for a year and a half. It’s tough out there, but I keep meeting with people in my industry and let them know I’m looking. Best of luck to you!!

So sorry you’re losing this oppertunity!
I once missed out on a job because none of my references could be bothered to CALL THE LADY BACK.
I was FURIOUS!

that’s what I was gonna say!! Would you be punished for loyalty to a company? Kind of sounds like a misunderstanding to me.

Oh my. I am so sorry! I feel your pain. I just went through the same thing although in the end I got the job. They wanted 2 supervisor references but they were casual enough that they allowed me to provide a cowoker instead…
Your situation definitely sucks. I don’t understand why they need so many!!!!
