Here’s something fun to do – search the boards for “didn’t read all the comments” and look at how many posts there are of people saying “I didn’t read all the comments, BUT… (here’s my opinion which may have already been said 3526 times and it’s quite possible that this has already been resolved, but what I have to say is so important that I’m going to say it anyway even though other details may have come to light in the comments that I didn’t take the time to read that may be important to know before commenting)”
Sorry, in a foul mood and venting.

Totally get what you are saying but when there ae 200+ comments I don’t feel like reading the same thing over and over again. Most the time I’ll read the last page and see where the conversation is.

here here! the thread they just closed was like 7 pages of the same comment over and over again.

Yeahhhhh… I understand that when a thread jumps to 5 pages you might not want to read all the comments, but I do wish people would at the very least read any follow up posts the OP has made.

@E_Lynne615: Lol I am so guilty of this sometimes!!

Most of the time if it’s over 4 pages everything has been said so why bother even commenting if you aren’t going to read the previous ones.

I think part of it is the structure of this forum in general is really bad and old fashioned, it makes it very difficult to find a particular poster’s reply, so if you want to read what the OP came back to said you have to go through every page. I’ve been on other forums that directly link you to most recent responses, particular responses from the OP, etc. Even the fact that there isn’t an easy way to get to the most recent responses, you have to start with the OP and click to the last page every time. Also, not having a quote feature makes it hard to follow a conversation unless you copy and paste previous responses.
Yeah, it annoys me sometimes, but I’m sure I’ve done it before too. And sometimes I don’t think it’s a bad thing if everyone says the same thing to the OP, it shows that many people feel the same way, rather than it being a minority opinion.

@HisIrishPrincess: exactly. Nobody is forcing you to read the whole thread, but if you want to comment, you should.
Posters look rather foolish giving their advice on page 5, when it’s been stated already 50 times, and OP resolved her conflict on page 4.

I didn’t realize that reading each and every comment was a condition of posting.

@ChemistryBride: I agree that it’s sometimes tough to follow, and I had found a link to a thread about asking the mods to add a feature that makes the OP updates stick out more, but I will have to go back and look for it, I think it’s a great idea.
It’s not always bad. It’s just when thing get kind of heated, like in the thread that subtlebee was talking about, it’s so annoying to have someone jump in and say “Well I didn’t read anything, but you guys are being too harsh.” or if the topic has strayed somewhat and someone says “Why are you even posting about XYZ?” because they didn’t bother to look back at the page before and see why. If someone told you and a group of people about a problem and you walked away for an hour, would you come back and jump right in with your opinion/advice or would you want to get caught up first? That’s the way I’m looking at it…
If someone’s asking for opinions on the dress they bought and I want to tell them that it looks fabulous, I’m going to do so, and probably won’t read through all the other bees saying that she looks great. That’s not what I’m talking about in this post.
The other time it really gets to me is when someone is debating between two things and then updates that she’s made her decision to go with “X” and people keep posting about how much they love “Y” because they didn’t see her update. I personally just try to look for the OP avatar, because I would feel bad gushing about dress “Y” if a girl already chose dress “X.”

@HisIrishPrincess: exactly. with 3-4 pages of comments, I’m sure my input wouldn’t be so enlightening lol

Most of the time I just end up reading threads instead of commenting, because my opinion is usually stated (more colloquially than I could’ve written it) and so I’m not really offering anything but a repeat opinion. 😛

Sometimes I try to look and see if the OP has responded or given more information. I am guilty of this and the threads can get frustrating if there have been many replies. Sometimes I move on and sometimes I comment. I figure if I’m repeating someone else’s response, the OP will skip over mine and continue on with their life. 😛
