A Chinese Dwarf Hamster! I always walk in there to watch the dogs getting groomed and I wanted to ask those workers where they went to school for it, and my husband and I came across these little guys! So I fell in love with him and we took him home.
HOWEVER, him running around in that wheel all night made us close the bedroom door, and we still heard him lol.. So we’re going to head off to the pet store again today to see if there is a “quieter” wheel lol..
And his water bottle leaked all night.. I guess we need a new one… We bought a starter kit and the contents were probably made cheaply.
His name is Chester!

I have wanted to get one of those guys for a while! I’ll probably get it from the rescue around here though. They have all kinds of odd rodents that people have given up lol.
I’m glad that you are sticking by him despite the issues. What a lucky little guy.

That little guy died Saturday night! I was a mess. We only had him a week. So we went back to Petsmart on Sunday, Andy they apologized and said it happens. So since we felt we didn’t get enough time with him, we got another one!
It is a robo dwarf instead. Here’s Jake!…

so sad about your first one 🙁 I had a dwarf hampster growing up (no idea what kind lol). He lived way longer than he shouldve- and died of overeating – my mom kept sneaking him in lettuce and other weird veggies. We then lost him for 2 weeks in our house – he escaped our cage – they can do that!!! We found him randomly one night trying to climb up the refrigerator grates. They’re sneaky little devils!!!!

Cute! I had a couple hamsters growing up. Escape artists, all of them. One would end up waaay on the other end of the house behind the piano. Or, imagine waking up, still in a sleepy stupor, thinking you hear something, looking down between your bed and nightstand and seeing a little face looking up at you. That was Harvey the Wonder Hamster.

We used to have gerbils when I was younger. They were so fun, except when they chewed their way out of their cage (we had a commerically designed one for them with tubes and stuff) and got lost! We were so afraid that the cat would get them. But we got them safely back to their cage.
When their wheel squeaked too much we used a dab of veggie oil as lube. It always worked.

aww Jake is adorable. I love robos so, so much. Just as a warning, they tend to be incredibly fast and insanely hard to catch if they get out.

@Brideonabudgetlauren: Thank you!
And thanks to everyone else! I think I’d die if he got out though! I’m a little jumpy, so if I felt him crawling on me I’d probably scream! :-). I could not take hearing that wheel either, so I bought the silent spinner and it works great! The only problem we have is when Jake goes on it, he literally flies off of it if he goes too fast, which is pretty much every time we’ve seen him on it so far. Is that ok? Also, he’ll literally climb to the top and do pull-ups and then just fall down! I always feel like he’s going to hurt himself.

Sorry to hear about Chester. Jake is cute! One of the reasons I fell in love with my husband is that he had a drarf hamster named Jerry. I love animals so for him to have a hamster really gave him a plus in my book. : )
