Go to a craft store, like Michaels, they have wooden letters that you can paint any color you want. They are $2 – $3 per letter, depending on size, etc. And, usually, you can find a coupon for Michaels too.

What type of paint would work well on these type of wood (crafts)? Primer? Sealant needed?

We did the "I DO" letters on our cake table as well and it turned out really nice. I got the letters from Michael’s, although I had to get smaller ones because they were constantly out of stock on the "I" and the "D" for some reason. Make sure you bring a coupon to save even more. You can just get any kind of spray paint – unless you anticipate it getting wet, there’s probably no need to seal it. If the surface of the letters are too smooth, you might want to take some sand paper to it so the paint sticks better. Have fun!

I found really pretty (and big) gold letters at Hobby Lobby.  They ended up being too big for the cake table, so they were propped up on the guestbook table at the ceremony.  In painting the letters, I would just use spraypaint.

I found mine at Hobby Lobby and they stand up. I painted them because they were unfinished. I also saw a few in Michaels’.

I love this idea! Now I am thinking of how I can work this into my own wedding!

Can someone post a picture of this?  I’m sorry — it’s Friday and my brain is shut off so for the life of me I can’t picture it in my head.  Thanks, bees!

I saw a great end of the evening photo with the bride and groom holding a poster that said "Thank You" to insert in cards….

and another photo with I DO held my bride and groom in their engagement shot…. a little multiuse of the letters too!

Silly question but this thread has me thinking … I was planning do to "I DO" letters and was very excited about it — but what color do I paint them?  I was hoping for a few cute photos of us holding the letters, but if I paint them white (as I was hoping) won’t that "blend" into my dress? and if we paint them a dark purple (our main color) and the groom holds it against his tux won’t that disappear then too? Jeeze – I am so over thinking this!
