I was half looking forward to dress shopping and half dreading it.  I ended up doing a tonne of research before hand and I emailed the boutique that had the dress I wanted, telling them what my budget was and asking if that dress was within it.

I would try try not to stress about it too much, you will always have options and I’m sure you’ll find your dress. Good luck!

haileyblue :  it sounds like you have 2 issues: 1) dresses look differently than you thought they would, and 2) dresses are too expensive. the good news is that both of these issues are totally solvable, and you can still have fun with dress shopping (but it’s also totally ok if you dont love dress shopping)!

starting with 2) – do your research. bridal salons tend to aim for a certain average price point. yes, large bridal stores have a larger range, but many bridal salons stay within a certain smaller range and choose their designers accordingly. so do your research, call the salon ahead of time to discuss price points of their dresses, and find a salon that carries only (or almost only) dresses that you can afford! no need to be looking at things that are beyond your budget. there are PLENTY of dresses under $2k. some designers to think about are allure, maggie sottero, essence of australia, wtoo… i’m sure others can recommend more.

as for 1) – be open minded about dress silhouettes and styles. try on things you aren’t even necessarily attracted to and wouldn’t have imagined. many women find that they look ttoally different in a wedding dress than they thought, and are often surprised by what styles are flattering on them and what aren’t. so rather than being disappointed that the dresses you tried on weren’t awesome, jut keep tryin different kinds. eventually, you’ll be able to narrow down what looks good on you.

haileyblue :  yes! You are not alone! My schedule doesn’t really match that of my sisters (bridesmaids) so I ended up going shopping by myself just to look…thinking it wouldn’t be a big deal. What I found out: 1. it IS a big deal and isn’t a decision to make alone. 2. It is time to order it RIGHT NOW. I thought I was doing pretty well for my October wedding but apparently I’m late. 3. They push you pretty hard to buy. Another reason this is not a one woman job. 🙁 So anyway…maybe I have some different reasons than you to be overwhelmed but I totally am. Trying to keep a positive attitude. I wish the best for us both! Good luck!

haileyblue :  also I did like a whole bunch of yoga and that helped with the stress. I recommend yoga with adriene on YouTube 😉
