I almost punched someone in the face because she told me that “God just needed another angel,” followed up with “God has a plan,” three days after I delivered Moose stillborn. That actually made me question the faith I had.

Yeah I could see how that could be annoying… I’m a Catholic and have friends who thank God on their facebook sometimes but it’s for major things, ex: one of my friends had a brain tumor removed.  I have to agree that the stuff you’re talking about would annoy me too LOL

This reminds me of a joke I saw (but now can’t find ughhh), where a football player is thanking God, while God is in the sky watching hockey lol

@kate169:  It’s been two years and, if I ever see this person again, I want to ask her, now that she’s had a kid, if she’d still say that to me because it pisses me of to the point of making me shake. It really surprised me how many times people pulled God’s will into the death of my child. I’m sure God really wanted me to carry a child for 34 weeks and 2 days to find out that I’d have to be in labor and deliver a child we’d never take home.

If God has his hands in the seafood market, why is shrimp so gosh darn expensive right now! How can God allow me to pay $20 for a pound of that stuff. Doesn’t he know that I have cocktail parties to go to and a wedding to plan. WHERE ARE HIS PRIORITIES!?!

Yeah that bugs me too. I am a loud mouth though and when it is said to my face I always have a quip back :p I think people just want to feel like there is a reason for things and spin whatever they have to tell themselves to feel that way. It is a lot messier to admit there is no order in life and *gasp* God helps those who help themselves.

 @KatNYC

Yes, thank you! I hate when I can’t find things I’m thinking of!

I totally agree with you, Kate.  My feed is saturated with this type of stuff, too.  I usually just “hide” people who post things like this.

Also, the Jesus pic above (lol) reminds me of this one:

I believe that God plays roles in big things. But just because you scored free frozen yogurt doesn’t mean that God had a hand in that. I think that’s just pure luck and coincidence. It’s not hurting anyone to say those things but I just really think you got lucky with stuff like that.

@TheFutureMcBride:  And that stuff bugs me too! I can’t stand when people say “God has a plan” stuff when something tragic happens, I don’t want to think that. My Fiance can say that some times and I want to smack him. I asked him would he say that if I miscarried at some point would he tell me that it was all God’s plan? I told him if he said that to me I would be furious. I’m sorry to hear about your loss too. I can’t even begin to understand your loss. And how awful for someone to say that to you! =(

There is lots of mis information regarding God out there.

Sadly, this is human nature at its finest.

I think a lot of this has to do with where you live. I live in Boston and God isn’t a very significant part of everyday life like I feel it is in the Midwest Bible Belt area.

I appreciate the idea of sprituality and I also admire people who appreciate the small victories in life (ie: a great deal on lobster, etc.) However, to say that this is God’s doing undermines the whole nature of religion, sprituality, etc. by trivializing it.

I also tend to think that people who place too much of a emphasis on “God’s doing” don’t taken enough responsibility for themselves, and I think that’s a bit dangerous. Sometimes bad things happen, sometimes good things happen, but ultimately, you have responsibility for your own life. It’s irks me when people sit around and wait for God to show them the right direction in life, etc. My 2 cents, but then again, the Northeast isn’t very religious as a whole.

@TheFutureMcBride: What you said reminds me of a post I saw on a friend’s facebook page right after her husband passed away. The girl wrote ” I am sorry for you loss, but I am SOOOOO excited that he is in heaven dancing!” I couldn’t imagine someone I know using the phrase “soooooo excited” the day after a loved one passed away….
