Now that Fiance and I are about to put down a deposit on our venue to secure our date, we can finally start looking into decor, getting invitations, etc. Problem is, we don’t have a theme, and most people I’ve talked to/read about on WB/seen on wedding TV shows have one to base everything from their invites to wedding cakes on. Even after looking at my Pinterest wedding board, there isn’t a general theme like, “Shabby Chic Elegance”, “Rustic Country”, or “Black Tie Bling” that I’m seeing.
The details we have for our wedding so far are:
- Our colors are going to be blue and green (although we’re not sure what shades of each one yet)
- My dress is lace
- Our Corgi is going to be a co-ring bearer in our ceremony
- Fiance is huge sci-fi and video game fan so there will be touches of Star Wars and Minecraft here and there
- We’re having a Vietnamese tea ceremony during the reception
- Depending on budget, we’re hoping to include a photobooth and a mini doughnut machine station (I mean, who wouldn’t like a freshly fried doughnut as a late night snack?!)
We’re not overly fancy or opulent people, but our ceremony and reception is going to be at a nice hotel. Mainly because we’re having a large amount of out of town guests and they’re dog friendly.
Anyway, I’m curious as to what your wedding theme is!

We don’t have a theme but it sounds like if we did it would be similar to yours, as there will also be Star Wars and donuts involved 😛
The best I can describe ours in wedding terms would be Modern Vintage with quirky touches. Which is vague as heck. Basically the theme is “Stuff we like”.

@vip0802: Our theme is “wedding” lol. I have colours picked out but I would not attempt a theme, I don’t care much for that.

Our theme is “wedding” – we have colors we like, cake we like, flowers we like. It is all a cohesive look. But no one will walk in and say “oh, their theme is X”

Ours didn’t really have a theme at first, just a color palette. Now because of our reception venue it is taking on a vintage-y, 30s (not overly so) feel. Our venue used to be a speakeasy during prohibition and then eventually became a reception hall.

- Wedding: November 2014 - Historic cinema
You really don’t need a theme, just do what you like! 🙂
That said, we do have a theme, we are marrying in a cinema and having a wedding full of movie references because that is US! No one is surprised as it really is the only option for us! lol

Our theme was a combo of “wedding!” And “shit we like”

I don’t have a ‘theme’ so much as we have a sort of vibe going on. It’s at a ranch, and I go to an agricultural school and we both have worked on farms/with horses, so we have horse-drawn carriages and wagons (with wood seats, no picky hay bales!) and fireworks. Definitely a country type of wedding, but Fiance is a pretty conservative, ‘normal’ guy so we’re going country-classy. A candy bar and popcorn machine will be there as snacks, and as a nod to my French Canadian roots we’re having a spread of poutine and fries later in the evening.
However, there will be several nods to Star Wars in terms of music being played, and Fiance is big on his dance/electronic music so we’ll be playing lots of that in the evening, and my indie/country musical love will be included somewhere in there too.
I would definitely say it’s a fun country classy almost fair-feel to it 🙂

Thanks for all the replies! It’s good to know there are others without a theme, although I will now be calling ours, “stuff we like”!

Our theme is love birds!
We’re just doing little details like cake topper, tree guest book, porcelin birdbath centerpieces and birdcages, invites and save the dates are bird themed. Our colors are turquoise and peach.

We had a loose fall theme I suppose. We had leaves and pumpkins as decor, and red Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses and my bouquet was red. We also incorporated other things though, such as river stones for a “guest book” and a mailbox for cards.

@vip0802: fresh donuts? ahhh I would eat so many, especially after having some wine haha.
We’re not exactly having one theme, but it will be garden-y, vintage, with a lot of photography stuff and books (FI and mine’s biggest hobbies). Will have some random anime stuff haha. I guess our theme is just stuff we like. Colors are sage green, black & white and some hits of light orange.
