@SweetRose2011: Sorry , I am confused because I am not familiar with the ‘waiting list’ system ..Is asking for a day -off out right not an option? I would follow up with your boss regardless and let them know you are unable to work that day.

I think the best bet is to speak to your boss (which you’ve already done)… she sounds like she is being reasonable about working to fix it for you.  If you can’t have the whole day off, maybe you can leave at around noon in hopes it would give you enough time to get ready?

How did the other girl get it off if you were at the top of the list? Does her reason trump yours or something?

@SweetRose2011: Ohh okay! which is exactly what you should say to your boss  – I was the first person to ask off for the day so it was not closed when I did. Therefore, I have no idea why I didn’t get it of

How early are you scheduled to work? I ask because I know most photographers prefer to shoot in the morning (it’s better light), so perhaps you can have an early morning engagement shoot, and then go into work? I’m sorry this is causing so much stress for you. You gave them plenty of notice, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t just have the entire day off. I hope everything works out!

You didn’t ask her right then and there?  I don’t know what type of enviroment you work in but I would honestly pull rank and (I AM NOT TELLING YOU TO DO THIS!!) I would quit if I had to.  Drastic. Yep but if I worked in a retail job or restaurant, I would quit.  (please don’t take that as advice!)

I would probably just outright say that I couldn’t make it – it’s just not an option. I have worked in bars and restautrants for YEARS throughout my schooling and this garbage just irks me. You did your due dilligence in booking the time off far in advance and should have been given first consideration to have that day off. They screwed up the schedule, the onus is on them to fix it. Maybe the manager who made the mistake should work that shift for you.

@Miss Lilac:

I love it and agree.

Do you and your manager get along?
