How about posting a picture and maybe we can help you?

Or…you could just be vague. “Thank you for your gift. I’m so touched that you took the time to handmake us a present! What a great addition to our new home!”

My Grandma knits us potholder looking things that are dish rags. They’re awesome and work really well to clean up. If you post a pic I can let you know if they’re the same.

If you post a photo we could try to guess or you could just say “thank you so much for your very thoughtful handmade gift”

They could be either one of your suggestions…

I would say:

Thank you for your beautiful handmade gift! I will sure use them around the kitchen πŸ™‚ . You are such a wonderful friend! I missed seeing you at the shower…blah blah..

Of course in your own words πŸ™‚ In that case they are not too specific, but specific enough for her to know that you will use them in the ktichen πŸ™‚

Wash cloth! They’re amazing, enjoy them. They wash up so nicely with a little bleach.

i would err on the side of caution. if theres a chance they could be pot holders then i wouldnt mention using them as dish cloths!!

I just asked my mom who knits and she said that they are washcloths… but people use them all around the kitchen. As potholders, decorations, etc. So it seems that they are very versatile.

Maybe you could mention the washcloths and all the different uses that you cn see yourself do with them and say thank you for such a useful gift πŸ™‚

As a knitter, I can tell you 100% (okay, 99%) that is not a potholder.  It’s a dishcloth or washcloth.  I don’t really make or use them, but many people say they’re great because you don’t have to keep buying new ones like the disposables.  You just put them in the washer and dryer and they’re ready for use again.

@jules28:  Definitely a dishcloth. Those are popular among my family and friends. They are all I use!
