Hey everyone! I wanted to leave a review of my 4CTW unenhanced Charles & Colvard moissanite ring for others who are considering it.
It’s a size 5, the center stone is 2.5 carats, and the side stones are 1 carat each.
Here’s the ring-
When I first opened the ring box I was surprised by how white it was. In different lighting it would show some warmth which I thought was lovely and made the stone look like a natural stone. I have only seen it actually look completely yellow under the yellow lighting in my kitchen. Once, outside in overcast weather, I picked up the faintest mint green color (I loved it and it wasn’t obvious). Overall, I really, really loved the color of the stones.
Next was the depth. I compared it to a 2 carat diamond and I could not tell a difference between the depth of the two of them with my naked eye.
One thing I noticed was that the center stone looked noticeably darker than the two flanking stones (see picture 3). The two side stones were a much brighter white than my center stone, but I’m assuming that’s because the center stone was so large (2.5 carats).
The reason why I sold this ring is because of what so many people rave about, the sparkles! The main reasons why I chose moissanite was because it’s conflict-free, clear, durable, and THE SPARKLES. I thought I would fall head over heels for the sparkle but I didn’t. It was just. too. much. It was splintery, too colorful, and overwhelmed the stone. When I first saw the sparkle, I thought it was reminiscent of CZ sparkle. You know how diamonds have sharp, crisp sparkles and CZ’s have pastel all-over-the-place sparkles? I’m sorry if I’m not explaining this very well but I tried to show what I mean in the fourth picture (this was under my yellow kitchen lights so that’s why it looks more yellow than white).
I wasn’t trying to pass this off as a diamond but it really bothered me that it looked similar to a CZ to me. A big part of this as well was that the stones were just too big. So oversized stones + overwhelming sparkle= CZ looking to me.
I seem to be rare in that I don’t like the sparkles. The rare complaints that moissanite usually gets have to do with its color. I actually don’t think I’ve ever seen someone not like moissanite because of its sparkle.. Haha.
Just wanted to let you all know if you’re thinking about moissanite, consider getting one that you can return just to make sure you like all aspects of it. Oh and PLEASE order some cheap CZ rings off of Ebay if you don’t know what carat size you want. It is absolutely worth the extra time and money in my opinion to make sure you will be satisfied with the carat size.
Good luck with everyone’s ring searches! 🙂
