- Wedding: May 2011
I knew when I made the decision to have my wedding in FI’s hometown that the bulk of my family and friends would not make it. The wedding is about an 8 hour drive or an hour flight on a long weekend. I made sure to send out invites early enough so that people would have time to save and take vacation. Now that RSVPs have come in nobody wants to come not even people who I took vacation for and spent money on going to their Out of Town weddings.
They all have legitimate excuses: saving for a baby on the way, saving for citizenship fees, etc. but I just feel sad and maybe a little slighted (this part is me being oversensitive I’m sure) that they won’t be there. People were so excited to get an invitation that I think part of me believed they would actually make the effort. I feel so selfish and realize that this isn’t a big day for them but now I truly can’t get excited to plan this wedding that will be mainly FI’s family. We’ve been in an LDR so I haven’t met anyone except for his immediate family. Any ideas to get out of this funk?
