I think you should just rock it. We’re the same size and height and I was really nervous about the wedding photos but they came out fantastic. When we first got engaged my mother was all over me about losing weight. She even tried to talk me into buying a sample dress that was 4 sizes too small to force me to lose the weight. It was terrible advice and I wouldn’t have been able to lose that much weight in 8 months anyways without being either at the gym 5 hours a day or being really unhealthy. There’s a lot of anti-fat in the wedding community and I think it’s crap. Thin bride, fat bride, chubby bride, curvy bride, they’re all brides and they’re all beautiful. Your best bet for looking beautiful on your wedding day is to keep your skin clear, moisturize, and get as much sleep as you can. You want to be the best version of yourself, not someone totaly different.

I gained 20 pounds before my wedding, my arms were chubby and my belly bloated.. BUT I married the love of my life, and look beautiful in my pictures because I was so happy!

Small, stand tall and be happy!

I am also a size 16/18 and 5’7″ and I’ve struggled with weight and self-esteem issues for years and years. I managed to lose 50 pounds from the time we got engaged to the end of last year and I had hoped to lose more but I also am an emotional eater and soothe myself with food. Horrible habit that I intend to break once all this wedding stuff is over.

My wedding is in less than 2 weeks and I go for my 2nd fitting on Tuesday. I hate seeing brides on the bee get so upset about weight before their wedding. I know we all want to look our best but it is a bit aggravating that our “best” usually means losing weight.

I realize that I’m not going to look much different size-wise on my wedding day than I do as I sit here writing this, however, I am focusing on staying away from any food that causes bloating or water retention (will be bad enough that I’ll be pre-menstrual on my wedding day…sigh) over the next two weeks and focusing on drinking lots of water and taking care of my skin and ensuring I’m well rested.

I just want to look like the most beautiful version of me that I can on that day…and I have faith that I will look beautiful and that I will focus on the happiness of the day and not how fat my arms look or how I wish I had lost 25 more pounds.

I wish the same for you and all the other Bees that struggle with self-confidence and weight issues.

Your fiance loves you for who you are, as do all your friends and family. You will look beautiful no matter what.

@michiru4ever:  Wow you look gorgeous!

@LibbyLoo:  “I just want to look like the most beautiful version of me that I can on that day…and I have faith that I will look beautiful and that I will focus on the happiness of the day and not how fat my arms look or how I wish I had lost 25 more pounds.”

Yesss this is what everyone needs to remind themselves!

Im in the same boat. I was working out like crazy and for the first time in my life I loved my arms… I hurt my back on my horse and was in bed for a week and hurting for about a month. so… my workout was ruined I was completely unmotivated… and having been back to the gym since because Im so mad I ruined all of my hard work. so.. instead of losing 60 pounds over the year like I planned, I am up about 10 now.  and.. to top it off I’ve had 2 deaths this week in my family to add to the stress. I was so scared that I wouldnt fit into my dress that my hair was actually falling out. Finally I got a friend to help me into the dress and it fit thank god! Im exactly the same size as you are girl.. size 18 and 5’6″. Not where I wanted to be, but my wedding is this Saturday and I dont have time to do anything about it.  Since my arms went all squishy I found a beautiful angora sweater to wear…. I say… we princess up and have a blast marrying our sweethearts!  Im not going to cinch in, or squish up or wear something that will make my day miserable.. this is me… honestly, if someone doesnt like it, who cares? not me.

@chocolatecoveredstrawberry:  You’ll look great no matter what, but some simple tips.

1. stay away from salts. you’ll loose “water”. but it looks amazingly different. Most of times, natural food has enough saltiness in it – especially meats. Cook for a while, and do not use any salts or any such in cooking. It also helps you to eat less.

2. weight training – no need of heavy lifting. But a frequent light weight lifting makes your body “look” slimmer (won’t decrease weight a lot) and healthier. You’ll feel great too.

3. drink a lot of water. this will make your skin glow and help you to eat less.

4. no matter if you succeed 1-3 or not, SMILE! you’re getting married to a man you love! what do you need more? don’t let a few pounds steal your beautiful smile away. You’ll be stunning!

Take some time to really pamper yourself. Get a massage, mani, pedi, hair treatment… the works! When I feel badly about my shape, this helps me avoid emotional eating and makes me feel beautiful. No bride is EVER anything but beautiful on her wedding day, so try to enjoy it and celebrate yourself as you are now and for whom you are now.

@dannielle89:  Good to know I’m not the only one who’s gained during the engagement period and is accepting of it. I feel like the wedding industry puts so much pressure on brides to lose weight and makes everyone believe that skinnier = prettier. I’ve had a lot of people randomly asking if I planned to lose weight for the wedding, which is just horrifying to me. (Especially because I don’t have any issues about my size and don’t talk to them about dieting, so I’m like, “Huh??”)

@Mee:  These are good tips! I am such a salty snack fiend! I’m going to try what you suggested as well as cutting out dairy for a few weeks before the wedding, since dairy tends to bother my asthma and skin.
