marriedalready69:  “man mode”, I love it!

OP- like a PP said, Moissy isn’t too expensive so hopefully you can swap it out.  Or you may learn to love it because he bought you what he truely thought you would love.

RayKay:  gave some solid advice. Depending on your setting, you might be able to swap out the head for one that can accomodate a cushion or oval. Sell the existing round on DiamondBistro. The only problem is, I would really recommend a Forever One for shapes like cushion and oval, as they can show a lot of body color otherwise (even the Forever Brilliants do, IMO)…and the F1s can be pretty expensive.

Depending on where you got it and when, they might be willing to do the stone swap for you with a partial refund just for the round stone, especially if you’re buying a more expensive stone to replace it with. It’s definitely worth a try.

I also second the idea or seeing if the seller can possibly switch the stone to a different shape in the setting. I feel like that shouldn’t be too impossible to do, unless it’s a halo or something similar. Worst case, you may have to buy the center stone yourself and have them redo it for it. I think it’s worth a shot.

I wouldn’t say anything to him until you know if that is a possibility. Do you like the setting at all? If you do, you could tell him that although you love the setting, the center stone was not what you were hoping for. Also, you could consider adding a band or ringguard that might make the whole thing more your style while keeping the band. Although you might think that since it’s a custom, that the company might not let you change it, maybe they would if you were to pay a difference for the new setting. Either way, good luck! I’m sorry it wasn’t what you were hoping for.

figs2006:  I actually have a round and I also liked other shapes but I really didn’t care what shaped I got. One day we were talkikg and he told me he only wanted to get me round diamonds bc of its simplicity and how it’s the hardest shape to get the perfect cut so that’s why he chose that for me.

So maybe your Fiance thought the same thing?

flor5308:  I tried on a bunch of round diamonds when my boyfriend and I were looking and I just wasn’t getting that wow factor from them and my boyfriend was surprised and said he was so glad he wasn’t picking it alone since he would have chosen round since that’s what his mother and grandmother wear. I like how they look on other’s people’s hands, but feel they get kind of lost on my hand since I have long fingers. I prefer something enlongated that covers my finger more.

OMG TWINS. Almost.  I only want an oval or cushion center stone, so sent Fiance a link to the band I chose and told him I loved it but wanted oval or cushion as a center stone.  And he said “that doesn’t really look like oval or cushion to me, it looks round.. you like that one?” and after trying to explain it 5 times, I was like hold on and had to actually make a wishlist with the exact center stones I wanted, my size, etc. AND THEN email pics of that band with an oval or cushion center so he could just pick the one he liked and drop it into a cart. I still don’t know which one he picked and am sooooo excited!!

If he had accidentally bought a round one, I would’ve tried to bring it up in a lighthearted manner.  He asked for so much help during the ring purchase because he REALLY wanted to get me one that I loved.  I think as long as I didn’t make him feel bad about choosing the wrong one, he would be more than happy to correct the mistake.

I hope the other bee who started the post about her BF saying she took the fun out of the proposal for him because she helped pick out the ring sees this.  This is exactly why I helped pick mine out.

I thought simulant vendors have grace period for returns?

forgotusername:  MOST vendors have some sort of grace period for returns on stock items, whether they sell simulants or not.

However, she already said it was a special order. No returns on special orders. Though, they may be willing to work with her to change her stone if possible (with some additional costs of course for difference and to rework ring)

RayKay:  Not knowledgable at all about simulant vendors so I’m not sure if they do have grace periods or not.  I know my jeweler will do trades and exchanges, speical orders or not.  Of course everything is special order as they are all custom so I’m not sure how it is with simulant vendors since they order their setting from casting companies.

“I reminded him again ..and sent him a picture of a setting i liked with a round moissanite  BUT i only like the setting…well what does he do? He buys me that ring…with a round moiss..I feel like I wasn’t clear enough..maybe?

I think you were a bit confusing. You sent him the photo of a ring you liked. Even though you mentioned to him that you don’t like rounds, he probably assumed that that ring was an exception since you sent it to him. I think you could just learn to love it. Or just swap the center stone out for a cushion.

I told my Fiance and the jeweler that I wanted a cushion…I ended up with a round. When I opened the box (we had already been engaged for a couple of months so it wasn’t right in the moment) I said something about it not being a cushion and his response was “it is!!” and then I had to explain it to him lol. He was seriously clueless even though we had looked at cushion rings before and I had told him several times.

forgotusername:  They also do custom design work if you ask. No different than my local jeweler who can order fittings and settings from casting companies or settings from certain designers, but they can also do custom design work. Depending on what they are doing, it may or may not be returnable, but they usually work to make things as you want them.

OP may have got a custom ring, or she may have got rose gold or something that makes it a special order. Like I said, they will probably work with her to modify things even if they can’t just take it back. They are usually pretty good.

If it was a stock setting from Moissanite Co or something, then, yes, there would be a return period.
