My mum fell on her stomach ice skating at 7 months pregnant with my sister, and off of the top of the fridge trying to paint at 8 months pregnant with my other sister (clearly does not know how to chill). Both sisters are great!
Check in with your doctor if you’re still concerned.
I’m 13 weeks and fell down the bottom 3 steps at home last week. Landed on my tailbone. From what I read, it sounds like as long as you don’t have any significant injuries, baby is probably fine. The amount of impact needed to hurt the baby would also severely injure you as well. But you could always call your doctor and see if they want you to come in.
At 13 weeks I fell on the stairs and broke 3 bones in my foot and ankle! I ended up in the emergency room, and when they found out I was pregnant they did a full ultrasound to be safe. I was then referred back to my OB for further evaluation, again just to be safe. Baby was perfectly fine!
Unless you land on your tummy directly, I think you’re likely pretty good. But if you’re worried just call and go in to get checked!
Definitely call your healthcare provider and get checked out. Sometimes there is a risk of your placenta detatching even if you don’t fall on your stomach. But chances are that everything will be fine!
My friend tripped and fell on her front side, right on her belly, when she was about 8 months along. She and baby were completely fine, didn’t even cause early labor or anything. Have another friend who got rear ended in a car accident when she was pretty far along too. She and baby were also fine.
I slipped on a wet floor when I was 7ish months pregnant and fell hard. No problems! At 16 weeks I’m sure the baby is fine.
Oh my goodness. I fell on my butt so many times while I was pregnant. One of those times I had a gush of fluid come out. I rushed to the doctor only to be told I peed myself.
The baby is really well protected in there. If you are feeling uneasy at all though, it doesn’t hurt to call a nurses line or see a doctor.
I fell when I was 7 months pregnant hard enough that I broke my foot in two places. Baby was completely fine. I drank a bunch of ice water to make her move and went to L&D to get monitored (per doctor’s orders) after I had my foot taken care of.
Call your OB – they might want you to come in for a heartbeat check since it’s too soon to feel baby move. But don’t stress – like PP said, the baby is SO well protected in all the amniotic fluid that I’m sure it’s fine.
I hope YOU’RE okay too!
I fell down half a flight of stairs at 7 weeks, my doctor said to just watch for bleeding. I also got rear ended pretty good at 24 weeks, and although I did get monitored in L&D for a few hours, I was fine. Baby is 7 months old.
You may want to call your OB, for peace of mind, but you are probably fine.
Falls are common in the later stages of pregnancy. A hormone called “relaxin” is produced that softens cartilage, ligaments and tendons. It, along with other hormones, allows the pubic area to stretch (softens pelvic ligaments and softens/widens cervix) during birth but its side effect is to soften ankle tendons, hence the falls.
During pregnancy I fell on my knees and a friend fell on her stomach. Both babies were fine.
It is worth cleaning any grazes carefully and, for peace of mind, check in with your doctor.
