- Wedding: March 2011
Hey girls! After months of stalking the hive,I finally decided to cave in and create an account ! So, I am now ready to commit to blogging about my destination wedding.
I am 100% Latina about to marry a 100% Puerto Rican (If you are Puerto Rican or know someone who is…you know there is a difference LOL). We are getting married in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico in March.
My lucky charm and I met in college on our way to a leadership conference. It took almost two hours to get there in which he slept the entire time despite my many attempts to include him in conversations. Unfortunately this encounter would be our last until three years later during which my lucky charm went to join the United States Airforce.
During the years apart my mystery man in addition to being in the military, joined a fraternity and I a sorority which leads me to our next encounter. Unbeknownst to me my sorority sister volunteered me for a task regarding our council and also assigned Mr. Charm to assist. Later that evening on September 4,2003 I was pushed to go to local bar by my roommate to celebrate our last year at college with our friends. The bar was extremely packed as usual but somehow Mr. Charm managed to find me and asked if I remembered him (of course I did) and then informed me that we were now going to work together on this council (what a pick-up line). Puzzled, I had no idea what he was referring to, but not surprised that my sorority sister would volunteer me without telling me (you know who you are :)). But the night did not stop there as Mr. Charm then proceeded to ask me to dance in which I respectfully declined (remember how hard I worked to get his attention when we first met..his turn now) which led to him asking two more times and then his friend asked me all of which I declined. But Mr. Charm is very persistent and then found me on the dance floor and we stayed together until closing. Now that the night had ended Mr. Charm asked me for my phone number and I gave him my home phone (back when everyone had home phones and did not want to waste cell phone minutes). I then left with my roommates and distinctly remember saying “wouldn’t it be funny if we got married”?
Three days later and I had yet to hear from Mr. Charm but I had class with his friend who informed me that he would call me later….and still nothing. So, that Thursday we went to the new bar that had opened (remember I was in college :)), with my roommates and as we opened the door who comes walking out of another door, Mr. No Call Back, of which I ignored him. I then went to have a great time with my roommates and as we walked away from the bar Mr. Charm was waiting there to talk to me. He asked if I remembered him again and I gave my witty response but he continued to talk to me and has not stopped since.
St. Patty’s Day
Prequel – We already had plans for dinner at a restaurant (because us Latino’s like to celebrate any day that involves drinking) LOL
I come home and its close to ¼ after 6 and open the door to see the house is immaculate and there is a candle burning and I see a box on the dining room table next to the candle. I think to myself “what the heck is going on” (perfectly normal as we all talk to ourselves) I open the ring box because I cannot sit in suspense and its papers with our names “Mr Charm” “Ms Charm””Son Charm” (sorry forgot to mention Mr Charm has an amazing son whom I’ve know since he was 2 turning 3) and I’m like “is this a puzzle”?(again talking to myself) and where is Mr Charm??? nowhere to be found. Anyway, I’m like this is weird and proceed to take Diego (I love our dogs name) out for a walk and Mr. Charm pulls up and gets out of the car kinda laughing and I’m like “Hi” and he’s all trying to play it cool with “how are you”, me puzzled am now like what the heck is going on, and we walk in the house and he says “did you open the box” I said “yes” and he proceeds to say “well I want you to know I want to take the next step but the ring is expensive so I hope this is ok” I say “of course! And it’s the thought that counts (really we had been together for 6 years and all I wanted to hear was “you are not wasting your time)….let’s go to dinner.” So we proceed to walk to the restaurant and halfway there he says “I forgot my wallet” so I said “are you serious” (now never in my life has this man forgotten his wallet) anyway we walk back home and he ‘get’s his wallet’ and then we are off again to the restaurant.
Mr. Charm proceeds to open my doors and I get ready to say “table for…” and I see Mr. Charm point and think ‘what the heck is he pointing at’…..my family! My parents, brother, sis-in –law, niece (missing my other brother, sister and niece SIGH), Mr Charms son and my BFF and now I’m perplexed LIKE whaaaaat. I proceed to sit down and I’m looking at everyone like they are crazy and look at the menu and hear my dad say “turn the menu over” as I turn it over its says in Spanish the specials (translated in English) and “Numero Uno was Marry Mr Charm and get an engagement ring and Numero dos Don’t marry Mr. Charm and get cold fries which are not that good”. Again I am like OMG and look over and Mr. Charm is on one knee and proposed so of course I said YES! And immediately updated facebook (LOL).
Funny coincidence the owner of a swanky Bridal Salon was there and asked to speak to me and gave me her business card and 20%off! Mr Charm said “oh yea I planned that” SILLY!
