I surprised Darling Husband by filling the house with flowers for v-day. He loves yellow lilies and red roses…well red roses are not very economical on February 14th so I got assorted spray roses and red mini carnations to bring in more red. I forgot how beautiful carnations can be since I tend to think of them as “cheap.” Not only that, boy are they hardy! There was some mishandling on my part trying to keep it a secret, the spray roses are looking a little rough, but the carnations are no worse for wear!

@pengoala: & @wabanzi: Thanks! I’m just a little proud of how well it all turned out. 🙂
Hopefully this can inspire a DIY bride in how versatile and pretty carnations can be. I do love them!

I have a newfound love for carnations. While we were at our florist making our final payment for our wedding flowers I saw a bunch of bouquets with PURPLE carnations! Purple is my favorite colour and I didn’t know that carnations came in purple. They had both light and dark shades. Naturally, I took home a bouquet that had them in it :).

I thought I hated carns but then found a bouquet I loved for my BMs, when I showed my florist she immediately told me that they were purple carns – I’m in love. Of course the purple ones cost about the same as roses but I don’t care, they’re the perfect colour, I have a new appreciation for what so many think is a filler flower!

I’m definitely using carnations in my wedding. they have a bad rap as being cheap but I think they look fantastic in big bunches!!! Beautiful arrangements OP!

I love carnations! They’re so fluffy and pretty (: We’re mainly just using carnations to decorate our tented ceremony and reception space. We’re having everything outdoors and they’ll stand up really well to the weather!
