After searching high & low, I found my dress!
I originally thought I wanted lace and something demure, an A-line. I was obsessed with the wToo Delphine. It was exactly what I pictured myself wearing. I couldn’t find it anywhere in Vancouver, so my mom and I drove down to WA to try it on there.
It turns out, I thought the dress was kind of blahh. Nothing too exciting and kind of predictable for me. It was what I always thought that I would want to wear, and it just didn’t excite me.
So, I went shoping with Future Mother-In-Law and FFSIL (FBIL’s somewhat serious girlfriend) and tried on a dress that I thought I liked (with the black sash – I have no idea what it is), but was looking at the photos FFSIL took when I got home and really liked the silhouette of the other one (Enzoani Casablanca)
So then I started trying on more fitted dresses, and fell in love with Mori Lee 5108 (which I wrote about previously). I was absolutely in love with this dress, and went back to visit it a few times (finally sneeking a change room photo – but it wasn’t pinned so it doesn’t look as good, and it didn’t have a sash, which was my favourite part). The problem was, my mother hated it. It’s completely tulle, and she kept sticking her nose up and saying it was crinoline.
So I was looking for more dresses that had a fitted silhouette and ruching across the bodice. Basically, I was looking for the 5108 made in chiffon. I ended up liking some dresses that had ruffles on the bottom – one by Ella Rosa, and then I was in LOVE with Maggie Sottero Divina (again, no photos! grr…)
So the problem with the Divina was that my mother didn’t like the way the ruffles are pinned to the dress. And I didn’t want a corset back – I really wanted buttons. I was a little hesitant about the price (I’m in grad school and spending tons of money on a dress in the first place made me kinda nauseated).
Then, I was out with a girlfriend from public school. I was looking at a dress that had the unfinished look of the Divina (Allure 2557).
And then the sales girl pulled my dress and it was instant love. It was nothing like what I was originally looking for, but it’s absolutely perfect! So I brought my mom in about a month later to look at it and she loved it. I wasn’t planning on buying anything right now – I was going to wait until October when the salon usually has their sample sales, but they were clearing out inventory and offered me 20% off. And since I’m a sample size, and they will repair any missing buttons or anything (which there was really nothing wrong with it – no rips, tears, nothing), we went ahead and bought it! I’m so excited! So here it is, my dress (which will have to be named since the stock # is so boring), Allure 8966:
