i went into the macy’s bridal salon in downtown minneapolis to try on a bill levkoff bridesmaid gown that i’d tried on a few weeks ago…this time returning to show it to Fiance. on a whim, since the previous consultant mentioned having a line of gowns that had a handful that came in a shade of blue, i’d asked to see one or two, if they had any that could fit in my price range. (i’d said that my upper limit was $800, wanting to keep it under $1K after alterations.) she only brought out two gowns…the one she wanted me to try on, and another so i could see the blue color on a gown (since the sample she wanted me to try was a silvery color).
that consultant definitely earns her paycheck…she KNOWS what she’s doing. it was perfect.
i am a practical person. i never expected (or even hoped) to have that OMG, lights shining down from heaven with angels singing, want to cry moment trying on a gown. but this one…i didn’t want to take it off, in spite of it being the wrong color (just KNOWING it came in the right color was enough) and about two sizes too small, making me feel a bit like a sausage stuffed into it. every other gown has been qualified with a but after the list of things i love about them, except for this one. she’s literally perfect. the draping, the neckline, the lack of embellishment (just a few fabric roses that are on a pin and can be removed easily) or lace or tulle. i might remove a few layers of built-in crinoline. it even comes with a matching shrug. and it comes in “grey-blue”, which is a pale, antique-y sort of french blue that just looks lovely with my skin tone and blonde hair. and the best part is that Fiance absolutely loved it as well.
the gown was over $1K. if i paid in full that night, she knocked off 15% (bringing it below $1K by a bit) and threw in free alterations. and i also forgot about something else…no sales tax on clothing in MN. SWEET. i said yes after wearing the gown for about 3 minutes. my gown is now on order.
OMG!!! holy crap.
“the one”…demetrios sensualle SR191:
and on me, friday night:
i love her sooooooo much. i swear she’s perfect. i kind of screwed up the dress thing when i married Darling Husband1 by opting to make my own gown without even trying anything on…whether or not the luck that lead me to have a second chance at this is good or bad is an issue to debate at another time, but i will NOT screw this up again. so glad i followed my whim friday night. it’s funny, because the only reason i went to that salon at all was to see a watters bridesmaid gown they wound up not having at all. i guess it was meant to be, lol.
just for reference, this is the “grey-blue” color…it’s a little different in person, a little less subtle than it appears in the picture:
